It's better than the Ps2 version in every way except for the lack of an orchestral soundtrack- which can be patched anyway if you have CFW

Red and Morrie are more powerful. But they also come late in the game. I actually found that Jessica and Angelo still have better synergy with the group for boss battles while Red and Morrie are super strong for mobs and leveling. I still beat the post game bosses with Jessica and Angelo on my team.

You can use boomerang right from the start and it never goes away. You don't even have to put points into the boomerang tree and the hero can still use boomerangs. Even with zero points into the boomerang tree, they are the best weapon for mobs. Just keep a sword/spear/whatever you're leveling on you and switch to it in boss battles.
