Naughty Dog released concept art for Jak 4 a while ago. I'm sure we'll see the series again in some way, shape, or form. I wouldn't mind a somewhat more cinematic approach, as long as it was limited to cutscenes and character interactions.

Yeah I've seen the concept art and I understand why they scrapped it, Daxter just looked uncanny but Jak looked pretty cool. They mentioned trying to translate Jak into a more realistic art style but it wasn't working out. I hope they do what Insomniac did and just keep the cartoony style with modern graphics. KHII played much better than the first and had the best worlds so far in the series. FM took an already great game and gave it a lot of extra bosses and challenges, giving it a lot of stuff to do postgame. The sheer ammount of quality content makes this a 10/10 in my book.

Kingdom Hearts 2 there's a lot of aspects of the story that are either guilty pleasure tier or stuff I genuinely enjoy like how the opening's context changes completely after watching 358/2 Days. even if the story isn't exactly great there's enough of it and enough of the rest of the game I like enough to overlook them and justify giving it a 10.

Honorable mention to Mother 3 which is a 9.5/10, if chapter 3 wasn't so tedious it would probably be my number one overall.

I quit RE4 once it got to the mansion crap on the second disc though. Great game, however I had no desire to play multiple hours inside a house with corridors and felt no need to finish the game.

Bought the Wii version a long time ago and maybe I'll finish it some day.

MGS3, the only stupid part was the river of the dead or whatever that required some dumb shit I had to look up. Finding a code on the game box like MGS1 actually made sense, but the MGS3 thing was not intuitive at all.

It's pretty much the same anyway. But it's ideally played as a handheld game, so go with PSP/VITA, or emulate on phone with PPSSPP, play it in the bus or during short breaks.

What's so fucking good about this game is it offers different activities depending on how much time and attention you can dedicate: if you want to play actively, there are story missions, if you have a friend, you can play in coop, if you only have a short time, there are short side missions, if you just want to pass time, you can manage Motherbase, and if you're busy doing something else, you can always listen to the tapes.

That's why it's so fucking perfect, and that's something anyone that played it on PS3/360/PC completely missed, just like most handheld games seem to miss it these days.

What makes a game a 10/10 though? How much you play it? How much fun you have? How pretty the game is? How well it stands up over time? How it controls? How it innovated or changed the game industry? How well-written the story is? It's impossible to say a game is a 10/10 across the board for all people because video games are mostly subjective. I guess it's what the game did to push the medium forward. Take a look at something like Thief II for an example. Thief: The Dark Project was already fantastic, but Thief 2 improved on it in every way possible and remains to this day the best stealth game ever made. So much care and thoughtfulness went into it and it fucking shows.

The easy requirement for a 10/10 is that it can't have any significant dips in quality, the hard part is defining the initial requirements for quality and complexity that a game must have before we even start looking for flaws. For example people keep citing Tetris as a 10/10, but it's an extremely simplistic game that gets old fast so praising it as flawless is fairly meaningless to the discussion, unless the point is to make the concession that past a certain point in complexity it's impossible for a game to be considered 10/10.

Other games such as Dark Souls can have areas that feel like a 10/10 experience, but it also has sections like Lost Izalith which shouldn't be glossed over. Abe's Oddysee is nearly flawless in its mechanics and audiovisual design, but the sparsity of checkpoints and lack of quicksave can easily cause so much tedious repetition that it becomes a glaring flaw (that was fixed in the sequel). These games are 9/10 at best, which is fine. Many anons would still post them in these threads because they'd rather forfeit the challenge, ignore the flaws and voice their opinion than admit that their favorite games are any less than 10/10.
