Ah yeah, Merk is annoying for anyone to deal with since he can punish projectiles real easily. I don't think you'll get around that too much since Merk is a pain to deal with in any situation since you can't really zone him out and he has the easiest time getting in your face if he can fly correctly. Have someone with an actual DP to catch him flying might be a good choice and the game is full of those characters.
