This is why I don't play Layton games (anymore). There are three types of puzzles:
>Bullshit puzzles with Gotcha! answers. Except after the second time the game pulls this on you, they become incredibly obvious.
>"Action" puzzles where you just do things until the solution clicks in automatically. These are the simplest.
>Busywork puzzles where you have to do math or trial and error logic. It's neat sometimes when they combine with the bullshit ones but it just gets lame.
The series is too formulaic.

What are some good puzzles/riddles that could be solved in a minute or two?

I'm making a vidya quiz and have a section that has actual puzzles/riddles from vidya as a category and I need 6 more puzzles/riddles and I've already reached my limit.

Here's an easy one from Silent Hill 3.

"Press, move 2 right;
press, move up 1;
press, move 2 down;
press, the door shall open."

>>387064689
It's 1/6 anon. 1/1296 would be correct if the question was what was the chance he rolled four threes in a row.

>>
>>387064510
>>387064631
>>387064689

I feel like it's 1/6.
Since the probability that happened before doesn't count, and it's asking you for the result of one die roll.
>>
>>387064689
this is the chance of rolling three 4 times. for a SINGULAR roll you always have 1/6 chance.

That's not correct though because it contradicts the first statement.

>it means 1 + 11 = 10

If you turn it upside down and the equation holds, than that means the first statement had to be false. Thus, rotating the view point changes nothing and does not provide a solution. Try harder, Mr. Game.

It's a trick question, the "4th" dice roll is technically the first one, because you've already got the first 3 guaranteed. Because of this, the chance of the next die being 3 is 1/6, since it's not technically a 4th die in a row.

The trick question ones are always terrible unless they're written so the only possible answer is the trick one.

I seem to remember one puzzle in the final Prof Layton game where it was something like how many circles in a scene. turns out there were two additional circles if you looked at the scene from the top down or along those lines.

>for a mobile game
It's the 3DS game with the costumes removed and changed to microtransactions. Buying them all totals up to the price of the 3DS game. If you don't care about using Katrielle as a virtual dress up doll, it's actually cheaper to get on mobile.

That said, I enjoyed what I've played so far, currently on case 8. It's a very different structure than the regular Layton games. Instead of being centered around one big mystery and collecting smaller mysteries to solve throughout the story, you just solve smaller mysteries one by one until you presumably reach the main plot. They're all scooby doo shit like sleuthing out a ghost or finding where a giant pile of money went.

Characters are kind of a mixed bag. I really like Katrielle. She's super cute and confident. Ernest and Sherl are pretty shit honestly; Ernest does nothing but kiss Katrielle's ass and Sherl is the straight man for whatever dumb shit is happening on screen, only it's not funny. Katrielle has a female rival and they banter nonstop. You'll either like it or find it annoying. The rest of the side characters are entertaining to talk to but largely forgettable.

Yes you can because the entire length of the bottom part is accounted for in being somewhere between 5 and 5+3. So you can tell. Seeing as you know the top part is 5, and the bottom part is

So assume the bottom part is 6. Seeing as you go 3 in (from the 3 feet listed), you now have to go 2 back to get to the 5 listed on the top. So that means if the bottom is 6, the only thing the unlisted part opposite the 3ft can be is 2. You also know that the total vertical distance on the right side = 5 because it doesn't change on that line.
So 5 + 5 + 6 +3 + 2 + 5 = 26.

Say the bottom line is 7 ft. Then you go 3 in, so you're 4 out from the other side, you need to go 1 further to join up with the 5ft bit on top. So you know

tl, dr; if you go further on the bottom, you have to go shorter on the unknown sticky out bit. Because you always have to make up the top 5ft, it will always equal 26.

I'm stoned and did a terrible job explaining that but it makes sense.

You can, because the image tells you it is. You can't know the exact length of A, or B, but you do know that A+B=3. A is defined as the length of the upper line of that cut out shape on the right. Because this line also marks where 5 feet would end for the length of the bottom line, we can also create B. B is the length over 5 feet for the bottom Line.

The presence of right angles lets you know that x, y, and z all add up to 5. If they were any other combined length, then at least one of the angles involved with them would have to be not right.

What are you talking about I only mentioned variation on one axis. I said the other axis HAS to be 5. All the working out is done on the horizontal lines.

Pushing and shoving the bottom length HAS to do something. Like I said, it has to be some value between 5 and 8 from the information we have. If you put any value between 5 and 8 on the bottom, you can solve the rest, and it will equal 26. Try it yourself, put 7.8ft as the alue for the bottom line.

>Alright what I'm trying to tell you two is that since it isn't proportional you cant assume A+B = 2/3 of 5ft.
But like I said ANY number put in there will work. You're trying to tell me this but you're not thinking it through because you are wrong.
We know that the vertical distance on the right side is 5 ft because there is no vertical variation in it as shown.
We are shown two horizontal jutting out areas.
One of them juts out 3 ft and then makes a right angle towards the bottom.

The other one juts out at x feet and makes a right angle towards the top, which is a line of 5 feets.

It not being proportional doesn't matter because it's only not PROPORTIONAL, it still has to be made up of the lines we see.

HEre's what I want you to do if you're such hot shit.

Fill that diagram in in a way that does NOT equal 26 yet is still logically consistent. You can't.

Potential Answers:

5. Puzzle never specifies to avoid the crickets. Go straight down the middle.

6. Right, Diagonal R/U, R, R, R, D

0/1. Don't connect any OR connect the ant to 1 dot. The actual task "Connect the points with straightlines to find the shortest possible route" doesn't specify a start or end.
>>
>>387076209
It's dumb though, the answer could be literally anything. As >>387076640 said, nothing in the riddle suggests the answer is correct, you're just at the whim of the author as to whatever they think should be correct.

either 5 or 15 minutes

Anyway, intuitive answer is 15 minutes, but I'm gonna guess it's really something stupid like she shakes them both at the same time which lets them end right away,

>>
>>387076424
That's literally unsolvable because it doesn't provide you with enough information and you have to make a wild guess. If you think Layton puzzles are the same then you might be a bit dumb. Even if they're obtuse, you'll usually see how it works when presented with the answer.

You're in a prison cell with no door or window. On a table is an orange and a knife.

How do you escape?
>>
>>387076563
She turns the three minute one at the two minute mark because technically the sand is in the bottom in one of them
>>
>>387076871
>>387076852
No it makes perfect sense.

When the 3 minute hourglass runs out she immediately turns BOTH over. There's 3 minutes worth of sand in the bottom of both in this case so by the time 3 more minutes pass she gets her satisfaction and gets here zeds.
>>
>>387077025

there's no door or window, but you must have been placed in the cell somehow, and there's no mention of there being a ceiling.
place the table next tot he wall for a boost, jam the knife into the wall to give you a handhold, eat the orange for strength, and climb out of the cell

@10: 2 | 0
@12: 0 | 3

Is how you're supposed to see it. HOWEVER.

@3: 0 | 2 -> Flip BOTH (She only flips them if the sand has fallen to the bottom of one of them. It never says she only flips the one the sand has hit the bottom) and they both have 3 minutes remaining.

So 6 minutes. You flip BOTH once the initial 3 minutes are up, resulting in both having 3 minutes of sand in them.
