She's the most normal and sympathetic character in the game. At worst, she's overprotective and she worries a little too much, but that's completely justified since Ethan gets their son killed and turns into an absolute fuck-up anyway.

Can't even blame the character here. If Ethan is the only character to find Shawn, Shelby gives him the gun and the player has the option to kill Shelby or allow him to leave. The sole reason they had Shelby pull a 180 here is so Maddie/Norman can have a final boss fight with him.
