I think it largely depends on both the class and aspect. Using the John/Jake example, John is granted his abilities due to him being an Heir, but Jake must earn or otherwise unlock his abilities due to him being a Page. On the aspect side of thing, Hope is way more abstract a concept than breath, so it would be understandable that Jake wouldn't be able to fully realize his abilities whereas John could go for it right away.

These were the only characters I gave a shit about so Homestuck kind of died after the Equius walkaround for me.

I just liked how devoted they were to each other and that they were good people at their core. They never did anything wrong. Well, maybe Equius did something wrong by not leaving Vriska to die but they grew up together so it's hard to blame him

It's unfortunate that they (and Eridan and Feferi) were rendered irrelevant by the new children since ultimately their existence didn't do anything. Equius' void powers hiding from Scratch were a neat idea. They're still my favorite though and ultimately them dying together was the most fitting end for either of them.

Though Nepeta going feral after losing him and it being revealed that Equius was keeping her in check and not the other way around would have been interesting too

So, where do you guys think the comic took a turn for the worse? Everyone always shits on Act 5, but personally I think it started going downhill when cherubs got introduced. In addition to the tone of story starting to stray from what it was later on, we spent a whole lot of time dicking around with the twins, rather than focusing on the kids, who barely did anything to deserve their god tiers.

Act 5.1 foreshadowed the downturn but it was ok overall and Act 5.2 was good as hell (second-best act behind 4 imo). I think it went downhill literally immediately after Cascade. The story lost all its momentum immediately and never recovered. Act 5 was spend building up to something big, and then it paid off. Act 6 tried to go back to the meandering of Act 1, without realizing that that kind of pacing doesn't work at this point in the narrative.

Something that really bothers me is the whole "SBURB genocides an entire planet as part of the plan" thing. Like, the kids basically don't even care that they're implicit in the deaths of billions of people. John brings it up once and then it's just dropped. It's not even part of the ending. Like, SBURB is going to find it's way onto the new planet all the kids are on and kill everybody but look Davekat! I just don't see how it's a happy ending when the fucking genocide game is still a loose end.

Everything else should be relatively easy (or at least as easy as making a game that proceduraly generates worlds can be.)
