You can easily roll lightning on a weapon at higher difficulties though. Being stuck with C CtA is pretty big when you could be rocking AA. Mikazuki Munechika is best for lightning. It'll give you a guaranteed roll of lightning that tends to be higher than Raikiri, it has a higher attack multiplier and it doesn't restrict your CtA.

I think Raikiri is fine for all of WotSa and probably most of WotStr but after that, C CtA makes it not good.

Basically all of its kit was improved. Titanic Strength does fantastic damage and Lumber Chop is incredible now, which is impressive considering how underwhelming it used to be.

The axes "parry" now does solid damage, the roar ability where you charge into the enemy puts humans into the final blow state more easily now, and finally I think they buffed Cloud Crush's damage a little though I might be mistaken.

Axe as a whole was seriously improved.

Water Shadow isn't bad for ninjutsu builds because exposing their back lets you stunlock them to death with kunai. You just don't do the follow up slash and start mashing kunai instead.

Shoulda just posted this too huh? I'm silly. Anyway, as the webm shows it would cause them to fall down, but didn't do much damage or Ki damage. You could stab them after but overall it wouldn't add up to as much as you could potentially get with Water Shadow, but it made it perfect for fights with multiple enemies as you could put one out of commission quickly (important since successful parries didn't have nearly as much invincibility as they do now) and focus on others while they have to get up. It made the three into a nice triangle where all were useful for different things.

The less you view the combat as being like Souls, the better you'll do. Take some time to practice it a little if you need to, Ki Pulse in particular drastically opens up the combat. Also do not bully the kodama band.

Yeah I think they're similar but Nioh is way more punishing if you get greedy trying to get in that extra hit in. Died quite a lot to an enemy with 10% or less hp. I get it now though, feels like i've got over that curve.

Yes. Take some time to go through them and look at what they do. It's harder to find onmyo and ninjutsu that aren't useful than ones that are.

Both onmyo and ninjutsu get extremely strong later depending on how you build. But there are basic ones that go good on almost any build. Ever played Demon's Souls? Quick Change scrolls are basically second chance 2.0.

Fire talismans will be good for the fifth boss since it's resistant to physical damage but weak to fire damage. Power pills are a good passive buff but you only get really high damage with boosts that give debuffs as well. The carnage talisman boosts attack much more but lowers defense in the process, and leeching talisman makes your attack skyrocket but makes you take a non-negligible amount of damage per second.

Either way, For ninja stuff, groundfire traps make human fights much easier, and free projectiles are always good. Both Ninja and Magic get much better once you unlock their mystic arts, but you need 20 in Dex/Magic respectively and the mission you need for them don't unlock until around the halfway point.

But still, regeneration and oasis talismans are great to preserve elixirs for tough fights.

Ki Pulse is what facilitates being able to get that extra hit. You have to be more careful with your Ki when it's low (not as careful as you should have to be since it's different now) but as you get more comfortable with your attacks and Ki Pulsing you'll be able to stretch that bar much further and avoid getting hit anyway since that's all that matters now.

As for Ninjutsu and Onmyo, yeah most of it is actually very useful, with quite a bit of it being pretty overpowered, so have a look through all of them and see what sounds useful for your particular playstyle. Fire talismans for example are good for their elemental properties if you don't have a weapon with it.

It's really worth it later on for divine fragments, even if you don't actually coop or pvp. You also get glory from them which is a currency used to buy things later.

You can't just farm developer revenants because they don't have gear like a regular player would. While a normal person would have full divines/ethereals, a dev revenant will just have blues and purples and maybe 1 divine, on average.

Really? With the heaviest single hit damage weapons there are? I dunno man, I didn't have any issues and I was using 3kat. Using the height to do drop attacks is really effective, if a little harder to do on his head than for removing the rocks. He attacks slowly so you should be able to get hits in then dodge his attacks, just beware of how his movement is an attack if you end up going too far away.

best tank build for clearing WotW is 5 piece bonus from Tatenashi with 6 piece bonus from Grace of Oyamatsumi for a total of over 25% damage reduction just from set bonuses.

Good luck on getting 2 usable ethereal melee weapons with that grace and no wasted slots, 2 usable ethereal ranged weapons with that grace and no usable slots and a piece of heavy armor with it too. You'll eventually get it, but it's a long process, even with a farming build.

I did WotW with mostly Tatenashi+WotE+Todo clan at 99 Stam and 99 body, B agility. I was rocking about 7K health after armor piece life bonuses and had a challenging but not insurmountable time. You won't be able to just take attacks willy-nilly, but my build made it so that you could take 2-3 hits before dying, which made things much easier.

Some WotW bosses have a buff that reverses penalties. Weakening talisman gave her a boost to defense, not the other way around. This wouldn't be a problem if the game fucking told you what each symbol meant.

It's mainly due to it's development. It was heavily changed from it's Alpha and Beta versions based on survey input to make everything much easier and simpler, and the already powerful things in the game (Ninjutsu, Onmyo, Living Weapon) weren't changed or were barely adjusted in meaningless ways to compensate. Upon that, the only thing they tried to do to replicate difficulty in some form was slightly increase the damage of enemy attacks in some random places, which doesn't really do anything. This all comes together to make the final game very confused but easily broken balance-wise.

Nioh is a game with better combat than souls, but not as much staying power. The enemy variety isn't as great, but the depth of which you can approach each encounter blows Souls out of the water. The thing is, you're likely to find an approach that works and settle with that, which means by the middle of the game you've settled into a playstyle which will last you until the end. The levels are mediocre but at least each one tries to do something unique, which keeps them interesting at least. For a single playthrough, Nioh is top notch. Nioh has a ton of different builds. It's a game of the philosophy of "If everything is broken, nothing is."

I'd recommend holding off and waiting until the last DLC comes out and just getting the complete package because the DLC introduce weapons types, ninja skills, spells, and armor sets that can be found from the very beginning, so if you hold off you'll have maximum variety.

Game is more Ninja Gaiden than Souls. The only Souls-like things in it is the flow of combat, leaving souls upon death at the spot you died, and boosting stats with souls collected. Game is still one of the PS4's best, for all it's flaws though. Just be sure you REALLY like Japanese history, because the story follows the end of the Warring States period pretty closely as historical fiction. It's like if you fought demons during the American Revolution alongside an electrically charged Ben Franklin.

Yes, you do have many options. My point was that beyond the endgame you don't NEED to use other options other than the one that you feel is most fun personally because power in this game grows exponentially. I'd say the hardest areas are stages 3 and 4, because that's when the game finally introduces its toughest enemies while you're still playing catch-up. After that, you just keep getting stronger and stronger while the enemies and bosses lag behind you.

If you can get a parry off on the dude when he's not in LW, you can get big damage. It will take practice, but it's a start. Otherwise, you're going to want to go into low stance, bring as many Sloth Talismans if you can, and keep him slow 100% of the time. I'm not sure if Groundfire traps or if Daiba-Washi's special can floor him while he's in Living Weapon, but you might try those. Also try Paralytic Groundfire to destroy his boipucci.

DLC is scaled to be way harder, you're going to want to try to get your divines all closer to 200 +10 and your weapon to 200+15, it's a bit overkill but it'll drag the DLC enemies back down to a more reasonable level for you.

I think WotS is only at 150 level, Way of the Demon has 150+ because they didn't have the DLC back then (not sure if they changed now) but what you're telling me if you can't find any then that means 150 is the cap for WotS. So now what you need to do is level up the + part, I dunno if you know about it basically you take two pieces of divine gear say 150 and another 150 soul match them and it'll be 150+1, now you get another 150+1 + 150+1 = 150+2, WotS you should be fine at 150+10, I think right now it goes up to +30.

I would want them to make it like the Alpha but what's far more likely is that they'll continue on this road to ruin they've paved themselves.
I guess I'd change effect inheriting so that instead of only being able to replace one specific effect, you can replace any of the same type, along with being able to remove non-locked effects. This is what I originally thought they were going to change it to and it'd be a nice way of expanding the forging aspect so you can finetune your entire weapons by using the loot you acquire.

Shrines for leveling up can be found in levels, the blacksmith can only be accessed on the main map. You can learn skills at any time or place.
Soul Matching lets you increase a weapon's level to the same as another higher leveled weapon by consuming the higher level weapon as a material. Other than that (and I think some other end game thing) you can't level up a weapon. You can increase it's familiarity by using it or having it equipped though, which makes it a bit stronger but has a limit.
Armour is very useful and necessary in this game, the defence you get is a big deal and heavier armour does come with much stronger defences. It also looks nice as hell, and you can refashion anything at the blacksmith to look how you want.
You can look at the meter if you need to, but there's also a ring of blue light that gathers around William-sama that can be used for timing it. You eventually learn the timing instinctively as well though.
That's a bit of a weird question, anything you like to use or think would help with your playstyle would be best since everything is useful in one way or another. Personally I like to put elixirs on both sets so that no matter what I know that I can press up to heal.

You farm revenants for primarily for divine fragments. Revenants don't drop + gear, so you just scrap their shit and use the fragments to reforge your gear so it has better stats. But if revenants are dropping gear a higher level then yours, then yeah, you could farm them for soul match cost down.

You just play the game naturally to get + gear, then soul match your gear up.

Dabble in a bit of everything.

Get Flux as soon as you can. It lets you ki pulse on dodge and is shared between weapon trees. Don't make the same mistake I did and assume that you'd have to rebuy it for all trees.

Passives in specific weapons apply for all damage, so you'll be wanting to get a few skills on the way to those for each weapon regardless.

Fist only does a lot of damage with the proper setup, but it's boring as sin and doesn't make good use of the game's mechanics (no stance change or ki pulse).

I don't recommend it, especially not for someone just starting.

There is a barehanded skill called composure which lets you parry someone barehanded and stab them with their own weapon which you could stack barehanded damage with to make ridiculous, but it's only useful against select humanoid attacks and has the stingiest timing of any parry in the game.

I would only recommend barehanded as far as using this gimmick on the side of a regular build.

I'm about to fight Gasha-Dokuro in my no weapon run and I think it's fun but I'm also using bombs to speed up mob enemies. The only thing you actually need is the fist talisman which turns your punches into the hardest hitting non-heavy attack in the game but unfortunately throwing a punch is apparently more exhausting than swinging an axe so all human boss encounters are just going to be parrying only. Lastly if you actually want to do it fresh you're going to have to go through Hinmoenma and Raiju doing only 50 every time but after that most monster bosses will go down pretty quick.

Yep. On Way of the Demon they add these red versions of enemies that have a bunch of special properties that will bully you. On Way of the Wise they add DLC enemies into the base game, so you need to worry about ninja dogs alerting all the surrounding enemies in the area and dragging them to you and stuff like that.

I've run into some pretty cheesy tactics. The high stance dash attack come out almost instantly and is easily spammable. But, I prefer it to either being stomped oryou doing the stomping without anything in between.

Pretty much this. It was unironically like a shonen powerup as soon as I figured out how to properly ki pulse in battle.
The game may have been shortlived, to me, but man the gameplay is fucking airtight. Loved every second of it. I'm gonna wait for the last DLC so I can binge through it again.
