Absolutely none. I remember some people jerking over Sin and Punishment but nobody knew about it until the Wii, and the sequel that game got bombed that it killed the series entirely. To make a long story short Star Fox was doomed since day one, it only took about a decade before it was realized, but at the time you had purists bitch over every installment because it wasnt 64.

Just like Meleefags and Genwunners,
except they got massively blown the fuck out when Zero ended up being a commercial failure.
Mind you they were acting like Zero was going to be the triumphant return to the series

Another thing to note on Sin & Punishment, there were other rail shooters during the Wiis life, but this only lasted for so long that it just died off completely. The fact is the genres life ended long ago and no longer has a place in the industry, this even goes for the arcades themselves, it just took until the fourth rehash of 64 that people realized "hey maybe 64 wasnt really that great".

The problem is they have never remade or expanded on SF64 without diverging too much from the original. There was a very specific mesh of things in 64 which were messed up in subsequent games.

- 64 outlined a simple story/universe with plenty of room for expansion
- the fighter action was great
- good soundtrack
- exciting on rails and arena air battles
- gameplay spurred on by radio dialogue, meaning there were also likeable characters

On the other hand:
- transforming robots was dumb
- dinosaurs was a foolish move, really went off-piste and wasn't what fans wanted. (Good game in its own right, not good Star Fox.)
- assault was too dumbed down, they should have completely skipped the on foot sections.

Personally, I do think Star Fox Zero was pretty great. But let's face it, Star Fox means a lot of things to different people. Some want more furries, some want a space opera and some just want to play a damn game.

Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby were able to get away with their 'New' series because they're sidescrollers and they're easy to pick up and play.

-Pick up collectibles
-Don't die
-Be fun to play

I really enjoyed Zero because it expanded the gameplay from 64 and Assualt, instead of resetting it to simplicity.
If Zero happens to be the last Star Fox game (doubtful), I'd be okay because I feel it combined everything from the series.

What I see happening next is them doing a 'New' Star Fox game, similar to the previously mentioned games: New artstyle, make the gameplay very similar to the original Star Fox (maybe with a dash of 2), give them a brand new villain and of course, add multiplayer co-op.

Peppy tried, once again, to look away from the holographic spiral projected in front of his face. Being shot down by Star Wolf was humiliating enough, but he'd been pulled from the wreckage by Andross's goons--and now he was strapped into a machine, created by the mad scientist himself.

The pulsing images must've been pounding at his mind for hours now, not to mention the headphones simultaneously pumping those strange buzzing sounds directly into his ears. He was unable to look away, or tune it out. It was easier to stop fighting it altogether--to perhaps fool them into thinking he was cooperating, or at least cease the torture. Just as he was beginning to relax and let the stimulation wash over him though, Peppy realized he was having difficulty forming coherent thoughts. Even that realization in itself was a struggle.

So he fought. He felt himself fading away, sinking into his straps, and disappearing, so he fought hard. But after continuous, waning spikes of thought, his feeble attempts at mental resistance slowed, and finally, ceased completely.

The only thoughts in his head were what the wonderful sounds in his ears told him; the only concepts in his mind were those he saw in the dazzling swirls before his eyes. He didn't even notice his captors as they came into the room to inspect the machine's displays, because he was too busy mindlessly drooling.

"Self awareness has bottomed out. Malleability is at it's peak. He's ready."

It's not a matter of price, it's a matter of it's relevancy. The era that Star Fox comes from has long since been over, and thus you can say it was doomed since the beginning as it would be a decade later that you'd notice the genre dying off with a very small comeback on the Wii, only for it to die completely with even S&P dying.

Zero has been on clearance ($40) for several months and no one has bought it even before the Switch came out, but the best part of this is that these are the same 1st editions that never sold.

The point i'm making is the genre has been long dead, nobody makes them not even your indie devs do because there's nothing you can do to redeem it or modernize it. Maybe im cherry picking but when I was at this amusement parks arcade, next to no one touched the After Burner arcade that was sitting there in the corner.

It's a shame, because Zero definitely had potential. I remember an article about how the story was going to be episodic, and I really anticipated a really nifty space adventure, but all we got was yet another rehash of 64. I think if there's one series that desperately needs to evolve and find its place, it's Star Fox. The characters and potential are there, but sadly the general game design just isn't.
Miyamoto thought he could justify the Wii U gamepad plus the motion controls 3 years after the console launched, and it was just a botch from beginning to end. Kamiya didn't even want to work on it, which Star Fox is his dream game by the way, because he knew he'd be constantly butting heads with Miyamoto.
