Never had that problem.
Saw anything from TMNT to Moomins and Ducktales when they aired (might've been reruns, dunno) OR by renting VHS cassettes.

Had a NES long into the mid-90s, switched it to SNES a couple years before N64 arrived, and played Doom and Douk on my friend's PC.
