It's easy to say three. I think the third one didn't live up to its fullest potential, so that's why Scott is retreading Springtrap once again in the next installment. But I think crossing over the non canon stuff into canon was even worse. The books are non canon, yet 'Sister Location' brings over that world into the game canon.

The creator got so drunk off success that he had no one holding him back from making idiotic decisions. The games lost their sense of identity with each sequel and eventually it was just a bloated mess of pretty special effects and terrible acting that puts iconography over actual substance. Play FNAF 1, and then play SL right after that, and you'll see exactly what went wrong.

Reminder of the irrepairable damage Rebornica did to the fandom with this abomination.

I think they are all fine from a atmospheric horror game perspective. However the gameplay is a mixed bag. 1-3 get too repetitive but SL is just too much unrelated shit going on.

If it was up to me, I'd have the next game be a collection of 5 nights each at 5 different locations, each with it's own gameplay gimmick. You only need to beat one night to progress the plot, or the full 25 nights for the best ending.

Really the games are best when you are just sitting back admiring the atmosphere. I still love that prerendered look that the games have become so well known for.

I liked it in the first game when there was a degree of ambiguity between the robots being a result technological malfunction and the possession by the spirits of murdered kids, or even possibly the protagonist being an unreliable narrator.

Now we have shit in here like the robots forming an almalgam of themselves which they want to cover in human skin to live amongst the human population. Why the fuck did this ever need to become so complicated? The essence of what made the first game good was a horror game in an original setting where you had to last out the threat with very limited means of defending yourself.

I still say 1, design wise, is genius, accomplishing a lot with so little. But yeah, whatever interesting lore and story aspect there was, it' been smashed to the ground, not only by Scott but the fandom as well. It's way too bloated a series now to do anything interesting with it. Funny considering it might be the fastest I've seen any work in any medium go from indie darling, to massive sucess, to sequel after sequel to self-destruction, all in the span of a year.
Still, can't blame Scott. He got what he could out of the series and is likely comfortable for life.
