Infinite is that pink stone from Mania. Look at his chest.

At the end of the true Sonic Mania ending and boss fight (Only accessible after obtaining all the Chaos Emeralds), Classic Sonic is teleported through a wormhole with the power of the Chaos Emeralds and a large red gem. Then the game literally ends with Classic Sonic missing and Tails and Knuckles staring at the sky.

This large red gem is either the Sonic Forces Villain Infinite, or at least the source of his powers. This seems like a pretty lofty claim, but there are two pieces of evidence in Mania to back this up. First of all, the powers this gem possesses. In Mania, Eggman uses this Gem to continuously warp Sonic through time and space. It is the reason Sonic is traveling through old zones seemingly at random. And in Sonic Forces, the same thing seems to be happening again. Chaos, a villain who was essentially killed by Super Sonic (and has only appeared in spin-offs since) is back from the dead likely through the use of time travel.

Secondly and much more importantly, the Gem makes a very specific sound effect whenever it powers are used. Links to the Sonic Mania opening cutscene and the ending cutscene where this sound can be heard will be included at the end of this post. This EXACT SAME sound is heard when Infinite creates his glowing red cubes in the Sonic Forces E3 trailer. And this isn't a generic sound that has been used in Sonic before, this is a completely unique sound effect seemingly created to be the signature sound of this new gem.

Essentially this Gem appears to either be a primordial from of Infinite, or the source of his powers. On top of this, it was brought into the Forces World FROM the Classic Sonic/Mania Timeline. (Or dimension? Apparently in the Egg Dragoon Boss fight Eggman calls Classic Sonic a meddler from another dimension, rather than the past, possibly meaning Classic Sonic's situation has been retconned so they can keep making Classic Sonic games

Im gonna call something, the lockon file in the Sonic Mania Files could refer to transfering the moves unlocked for Sonic in Sonic Mania like the Peel Out and Insta Sheild into Sonic Forces, Pint-Sized Sonic already has drop dash in forces so maybe thats what its for, to give force fags a not so good reason to buy mania

Eggman running away at the end shouldn't be counted for anything, and neither should his Eggmobile flying away. This isn't Mega Man where he threatens to murder his nemesis and throws him in jail, Eggman just pulls the same "I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME HERO" shtick that cartoon villains pull and there's no need for Spnic to actually catch up with him. Also considering the top speed you can go on the games, Sonic's definitely not running at top speed in those cutscenes.

Shadow was stated as being about as fast as Sonic, but he also cheated with Chaos Control in SA2.
Metal is also apparently just as fast. Silver MAY be but it's not confirmed. Also he has psychokinesis so fuck him.

The other playable characters in the games move just as fast in gameplay for gameplay purposes, because having them be slower would cripple them.

Jet the Hawk is the fastest Gear rider. He probably can't run for shit.

Other than that I'm pretty sure no other character has been compared to Sonic, let alone called faster.
