I've played every Metroid game other than ZM, Fusion, and Other M and I'm unhappy about game features being locked behind relatively expensive objects that are subject to scarcity. I don't care about the art or the music but I want fusion mode and the only way to do that is to get the metroid amiibo as part of a package deal that I'll probably only be able to get my hands on if I head to Best Buy or GameStop during lunch because they seem to be the only people near me who weren't run dry by preorders.

The DS Castlevania games had extra modes as a standard feature and those came out a decade ago and weren't supposed to pump life into a franchise that's been mismanaged for years. The Prime games were good but got weaker over time and then Other M happened. The last time we had an official 2D game was 2004. Considering all this I wasn't expecting SR to ship with what I'd consider a pretty big day 1 unlockable.

All that said the game looks good and I'll probably buy it ASAP and just spoof the amiibo shit.

They already had a GoW clone before they went to Konami and Kojima's the one that decided what they had should be a Castlevania game which determined its direction in the future even in the later games on which they were the sole developer with an in-house director. Couple addendums to this image: what makes the combat bad is that it's quite literally "mash the arrow keys to win" - the timing on the dodge is incredibly lenient and extra presses aren't penalized in any way, so mashing basically guarantees 100% successful dodging every time. Not only that, a dodge gives you a full weapon charge every time, allowing you to quickly wear down and kill any enemies. It's a total joke.

Then there's something the image doesn't even mention: the repetition. There's two bosses in the game, one (a big armored beetle) of which you fight thrice (two of those times are literally identical down to being in the same room) and one which you fight a whopping four (!) times (that butterfly-looking thing). Then there's the stuff like right before you get the wave beam you have to go through a long-ass morph ball climb and an uneventful slide down a snowy slope back where you came from, and literally right after you exit and fight some enemies with the wave beam, you have go through the exact same tedious morph ball climb and slide down the snowy slope again, except this time there's an instakill avalanche on the latter.

Other M was such a trash fire of a game.
