I mean, I think Funny Pizza Land is legitimately more interesting than most indie shit that comes out. But there are no genuinely obscure games that I would consider to be favorites.

Making a video game is really, REALLY fucking hard. Insanely hard. Hundreds of thousands of man hours hard (for anything bigger than a small indie game). So the best video games tend to be the ones that a lot of people have put a lot of time and money into, and people naturally congregate around those big commercial releases. Video games aren't like books and music where you can have a flood of people strike out on their own and just happen to whip up something that competes with the major releases.

Assuming you meant me when you greentexted Glover, it's just one of the most fun games I've ever played. The level design stays interesting throughout, and the music and the aesthetics make it very appealing. The controls are a bit awkward, but make sense for the whole glove ball dynamic. It's definitely not the most well designed game but it's very comfy imo. Really wish this idea would be revisited someday.

starcraft was my entire junior high and high school life in the mid 2000s, i played the fuck out of UMS maps until tower defense shit drowned out all the good content
diablo 2 was the other thing that dominated that time period, i still play it today from time to time. hardcore is fucking tense but i love it.

this is a really budget build and i prioritized a motherboard with a decent featureset over performance (not having shit like an ethernet port or usb 3.0 headers is fucking awful), but it should work well enough for playing modern shit on lower settings. i also prioritized brands i know are decent, which may have driven the price up a bit. you can probably get by with a cheaper case. 500gb hdd would cut the price also, but having a 1tb is nice. in the end a lot of making builds is experience and preference ends up playing a big part in that.

Original Dark Souls did when it came out m8. Playing that in my mid 20s for the first time made me feel like I was 12 years old playing through Ocarina of Time, better even. Really didn't think that would ever be possible again as an adult. I still enjoy many modern games though, just usually not like I did as a kid which is understandable of course. JRPGs have usually a fantasy environment with flamboyant character designs, and usually use the turn-based system which was inspired by Wizardy and Ultima (but got simplified). WRPGs are usually set in a tolkin-esque world, with more realistic character design and different themes (you rarely go against a god), not to mention the accent isn't put on music as much as in JRPGs. While you can name only a handful of WRPGs with really memorable music, you can name JRPGs all day.

There's already a subgenre there buddy, roguelike = turn based gameplay, tile based map, dungeon crawling, randomized maps each playthrough. Roguelite = Randomized maps but not the rest of the stuff, think Binding of Isaac
