So I hated RE5 and stopped playing RE ever since.
But I heard RE7 was more like the classics.
That true?
Its not a god damn action game right?
And its not Outlast either right?
>>
It's an action game but it leans much further towards the classics than 4-6 did.
>>
>>387040768
It's Outlast with guns.
>>
Where the fuck is the DLC dammit??

And yeah it's very reminiscent of 1-3 + CV. Loved it but it's not without its flaws.

Ehhh... So there's like no horror or atmosphere to this game? s it worth a pirate?
>>
>>387041392
So, it's not Outlast.
>>
It is but it also isn't. It's got elements of Amnesia mixed in there which makes it feel like a very different game. There is some elements of the old games and there's definitely not any over the top action but I wouldn't say it feel like the originals. It still feels like an RE game to a large degree but it's it's own thing. I thought it was good but with a number of flaws. Worth a try.
>>
>>387040768
>But I heard RE7 was more like the classics.
You heard wrong.
I fell for that meme too, but besides there being item-boxes, herbs and THAT shotgun puzzle literally copypasted in, it's nothing like 1-3.

It's a funneling-tire linear, heavily scripted, full of first-person cinematics, terrible "puzzles", awful bossfights, and zero replay value. There's also almost no "normal" enemies roaming around before the very last area or two, and they're all re-skinned Regenerators.
>>
>>387041392
When you say Outlast do you mean most of the game is stealth based? Because fuck that.
>>
>>387041457

It's actually probably the scariest RE game.
>>
>>387040768
Anyone know if this better in VR?
>>
>>387041457
The early parts of the game are pretty spooky but it lays on the action pretty thick towards the end
>>
>>387041457
It's a horror game and it's about survival and item/ammo management. Not sure why anyone would call it an action game.
>>
>>387041457
I got a CD key for RE7 day-1 for mere 25 bucks.
Less than 2 hours into the game, I was ready to refund it. But alas, can't refund games not bought directly off Steam store.

>>387041571
...if you consider Amnesia and Outlast ""scary"".
>>
>>387041562
>There's also almost no "normal" enemies roaming around before the very last area or two
A blatant lie.
>>
>>387041565

There are lots of section where you are trying to not get spotted by one of the invincible family members and you can't kill them until you have a boss battle with them.
>>
>>387041628

You did not play the game.

Ok I'm conflicted. I might just try it I'm just afraid of being burnt after 5.
Like some of you say its good some of you say its not I honestly don't know what to think.
>>
>>387041673

Not him, but that definitely isn't true. There are basic enemies in like every section. The end section just throws hoards of them at you and it become more action oriented.
>>
>>387041673
No, YOU didn't play it. No enemies until the last area or two? There's enemies in the main house / basement, which is the 2nd area of the game. Enemies in the old house, the barn, ship, etc. Fuck off.
>>
RE have always been action games
/v/ is just stupid and thinks action isn't action if its slower and spoopier
>>
>>387041593
A lot better.
>>
>>387040768
It shamelessly rips areas from RE1 without incorporating the tight level design and exploration, and the new stuff it adds are painfully linear (Old House, Caves, Lucas House)or just braindead in design (The Boat).
Level layout comparison:
RE1
>House
>Guardhouse
>Return to House
>Caves
>Lab
REVII
>Old House
>House
>Guardhouse
>Return to House
>Lucas House
>Boat
>Caves
The game is also painfully short and constantly references movies in dialogue rather than art style and design for some reason
>>
>>387041624
But its nothing like Outlast or Amnesia.
>>
>>387041947

Yes, it is. You have an enemy you can't defeat the patrols areas that you have to sneak around.
>>
>>387041902
The Baker house felt completely diffrint from the Spencer House besides that one puzzles and maybe the main hall.
>>
>>387041593
It's amazing in VR.
>>
>>387042053
Oh shit, was Outlast really a Nemesis-clone this whole time?
>>
>>387042053
You mean the one time you need to sneak?
And every other time you encounter the family members you just shoot them dead?
By this logic RE3 is an Outlast clone.

>No enemies until the last area or two?
Ah, you're just illiterate moron / a burger.

I said "ALMOST" no NORMAL enemies. Yeah, you face a few Molded in the basement, and even less out in the courtyard later on, but that's it.

By the time you leave for the barn and shit, you are already in the END GAME section, which again matches well with what I said. And while the Ship was the best, most classic RE-style area in the game, having ONE (1) enemy style come at you in small dozes at all times (yeah yeah there's 3 or so variants, they still all look and play the same) is a far cry from the heavy concentration of various enemies being after your arse in almost every single room and area in RE1-3.
>>
>>387041593
Everything is better inVR
>>
7 is really really good.
It's just not replayable.

The action is overdone in the end and the goo monsters are kind of boring.
The first 5 hours are perfect though.
>>
>>387042158
Are you literally an idiot, or just memeing?
Even a 10 year old could easily tell you why RE3 is vastly different from the Outlast clones.
>>
>>387042175
>a few
A blatant lie. There's at least 8 in the basement alone. This isn't a fucking action centered game, it's a horror game, so why you want more than what it had is retarded to me.
>>
>>387042223
>The first 5 hours are perfect though.
you mean the last five, right?
>>
>Jack arc: 10/10
>Marguerite arc: 9/10
>Lucas arc: 7/10
>Eveline arc: 5/10
At least pirate this game to see the best chunks.
There are moments when it feels like REmake, however briefly they're there.
>>
>>387042170

It's far more than one time.
>>
>>387042238
You can down Jack just like Nemesis. The only similarity to Outlast and RE7 is the first person and that is a shallow similarity and makes you look like a tool if you think it matters.
>>
>>387042442
I can only think of that tape where you play Mia.where stealth has to been done and even then that tape is optional
Other then that even at the start where you got no weapons all I ever do is run up to jack grab the key and get onto the next section where I get my gun.
>>
>>387042086
>The Baker house felt completely diffrint from the Spencer House
That's obvious, as the Baker House is ass in comparison, and it was an attempt to cash in on RE1 nostalgia, rather than taking note from literally every other main RE game in existence and having something unique to itself.
>RE1, the mansion
>RE2, the police station
>RE3, Raccoon City
>RECV, Antarctica and Rockfort
>RE0, the train
>RE4, the Village
>RE5, the islands, Tricell labs and volcano
>REvelations, the boat
>RE6, China
>REvelations 2, the island and abandoned town/village
>REVII, the mansion (again)
The Baker House lacks any and all charm, and it just feels small in comparison to the Spencer Mansion even in the original game.
The return trip is also shit, as there's only about 3 new rooms available, wheras in RE1, the return trip unlocked a third of the mansion
>>
>>387041565
About 30% of the game is pure stealth.

10-15% of the game is stealth against Jack, and 5% is stealth against margharite (since during her stealth section you get a flamethrower which makes her fuck off, so it's not really stealth at that point). And 10% is stealth on a ship which is less stealth and more about just running past some enemies as quickly as possible and closing the door until you get a gun.
>>
>>387042604
I felt the Bakers house was plenty charming.
It felt like a legit house people lived in but slowly lost there minds and you can see just how shit it had become.
It felt like going through A real life hoarders house.
>>
>>387042523
>You can down Jack just like Nemesis.
But why would you?
And you never see Jack together with other enemies. In fact, it's always EITHER one (1) of the family members after you, or a handful of Molded, who can't even open doors and track you from area to area.
>>
>>387042886
Even then you don't get any cool shit for downing him and he isn't even fun to fight. Hell nothing is fun to fight in RE7
>>
>>387042886
>But why would you?
To get rid of him temporarily so you can search the area. Not relevant except if you saw Nemesis solely as a walking pinata, in which case, fuck your autism.
>>

Even playing it with a freind (Which by the way is the only way to play 5 unless you really want to suffer) it's still shit. Its just RE4 done again but with none of the magic or spark.
The level design sucks. It has no atmosphere of any kind. and the boulder part was when RE jumped the damn shark.
>>
>>387043668
>Y-Your criticism is ONLY valid if you turn off literally half of the entire game!!

If anything, this is yet another strong blow against RE7: back in my days, you did not have to disable tons of gameplay features to make the game "good".

Not him bu tons games do this but if you can turn off the shit that annoys you what's the problem?
I fucking hated the slow mo bullshit in Metal Gear Solid 5 because it made getting caught feel like it meant almost nothing.
But then I just turned it off and then getting spotted had real consequence for the rest of the game.
My point being if you have the option to get rid of what you don't like why would it still piss you off? unless your very petty.

Every part with Jack was a master class in horror and gameplay.
Its a shame the rest of the game (besides maybe Margaret and Jacks final form) couldn't reach the same level.

Yeah that's fair. I have a soft spot for RE5 because of the Wesker and Jill DMC nonsense but the level design is bland to say the least.

>Not him bu tons games do this but if you can turn off the shit that annoys you what's the problem?
The fact that tons of games do that is actually part of the problem that next to no one seems to talk about.

It's even more infuriating issue when the devs DESIGN their games to be played with them on, not even bothering to test and balance things out when all that handholding shit is disabled.

In the past few years, I've played a few modern games with item shimmer and button prompts disabled, where the end result was me running around aimlessly for hours at best, not realizing that ONE practically hidden detail in the overall brown and grey environment was interactive and essential for my progress.
This shit's especially annoying in survival horror games, as the oldschool titles did things like focusing the camera on important things, or having items you pick up have more vivid colors, etc.
>>
>>387040768
RE7 is definitely my favourite since 4. The Baker household isn't as elaborate or exploration heavy as the Spencer mansion or Racoon City but going through the environment and checking out the different areas, trying to predict what would be next still made it satisfying. Some good scares thrown in there as well. Definitely the best horror game I've played in a while and a strong start to the new direction of the series. Just don't expect anything as amazing as REmake or 4 and you'll have a good time.
>>
>>387044069
in all of the original RE games, including REmake, items you could obtain always had a sparkle to them. As far as I know, you couldn't turn that feature off. Why get bent about it now, esp since you can turn it off?
>>
>>387041565
There are stealth moments, but it's not as frustrating as Outlast. In most instances being spotted won't result in an instant failure but it will instead require you to get distance between you and the enemy.
>>
>>387044680
OP here.
Why did you post that when I said 5 killed the series for me?
Am I supposed to be mad?
>>
>>387044681
I can play RE7 completely fine without the item glow so I don't see the problem.
>>
>>387044681
You still haven't made a good case as to why options are bad. RE7 is not only perfectly playable with the HUD off but it's even better with it off, but the option is there for people who aren't as good at games or who don't want to spend extra time searching for items. This is exactly how games should be.

I enjoyed Jack and Lucas. Everyone else was pretty boring though, and how RE7 is set out you only get Jack and Lucas for 2/5's of the game. Honestly though, RE7's biggest problem is the gameplay, it's serviceable but isn't that great.
>>
>>387040768
No. Like RE4, RE7 tries to reinvent the wheel by going full retard.

Only, in a different direction this time. That direction being a cinematic VR game.

>>387044749
>in all of the original RE games, including REmake, items you could obtain always had a sparkle to them
Not all. Just few key-items or ones you literally could not see, be it because of the scene or the 240p resolution.

And while at it, Silent Hill games didn't have any sparkle or shimmer to anything. They made do with smart item placement, distinct color-design, and highlighting camera angles.
