Most enjoyable thing in the game was fishing as it was mindless shit that I just had to press spacebar occasionally aside from that I'd go into a dungeon and spam the same skills at the same time while playing stay out of the red zone bullshit.

I don't play it so keep that in mind but from what I've gathered here are a few reasons
1. it's final fantasy
2. it sounds like you don't like "generic MMOs", but some people do
3. they did a HUGE overhaul update that changed a lot of things including a new engine, from what I understand most of these changes were very well received. might not even do it justice to just call it an "update"
4. it's the biggest alternative to WoW at the moment

Buy/Sell menus aside, late-1.X was rather playable. ARR is basically 1.23 gameplay sped up, with jumping added, and local servers so you could actually react to AoEs.

As much as I like FFXIV I can attest that apart from having more skills and such and a few boss mechanics change it, much like other MMOs, doesn't end up changing much as its core, so yeah, it might not be your kinda game. Level 45 is still more than enough time to pass judgment and an overall opinion on it.

Go to Mabinogi scroll through 500 quests and have so much content I legitimately don't know what to do. So I just go and spam Ice spear alone until I get bored because I can't find anyone.

I just wanted to finish Fireball and could get no one to do Peca and other dungeons for me, that dungeon was always a nightmare for me solo.

My old guild could clear it but after about 30 runs we saw squat in ways for pages but they are long since retired

Japan will literally eat the shittiest garbage pushed out if it has the right brand name attached. look at DQX and, well, FFXIV. DQX is doing amazingly despite being held back by fucking wii hardware limitations. and FFXIV has such miniscule sub numbers outside of japan that it's a miracle it's still servicing those areas. Sega learned and gave up on the markets after PS:U shut down.

It's not, but that doesn't change japan keeps it afloat simply because it's got the FF brand slapped on there. FFXIV 4.0 was held afloat for almost a year and a half solely on subs from japan because they made it free everywhere else while they prepped ARR.

Just my two cents, but I like theme-park MMO's , and I like that I only have to coordinate a schedule with 8 people to do high end raiding. That's really about it.
