As a NEET we have plenty of freetime but it's still a moral duty to produce things of worth like poetry, or even wonderful music. Vidya can wait.

It's simple really. I wake up at a decent time, go for a walk or something and start my day with coffee and cigarettes. I've worked out some oddjobs doing occasional off-the-books laboring for when I need the cash, and it has the added benefit of me needing to constantly upkeep some sort of physique to work hard enough to stay on the good books.

Now, I wouldn't call it healthy, but it works out. I'm happy enough, got plenty of free time and the opportunity to earn whatever I need, when I need it by accepting that I won't grovel for a 9-5 because I am an entitled shitlord and making up my own plans.
Now I just work with that knowledge instead of living in denial, it's pretty decent.

Believe in yourself, do what you need to do to be independent and use that NEET-brain for your benefit. People will always dislike what you do if it goes against their values, just let it roll off you and use your energy to be productive for yourself and set your own goals.

>what are you currently playing
Infra Arcana, SS13, Divinity:OS and some shitty game called Kenshi. I can't stop myself from playing it, it plays and looks like ass, but it is enjoyable for some odd reason.

In my experience the stress of not having a job was far, far worse than any stress from the job itself.

Being unsure of how I'd keep myself fed, fearing when the generosity of friends and family would run out, not being able to casually buy vidya every week, all of that was several hundred times worse than getting up for a 20 minute commute to a chill IT job where the most I really had to worry about was filling out a digital ticket correctly.

Sure, it would've been nice if it was a little less than 40 hours a week. But it was honestly worth it for being able to buy whatever the fuck I wanted for all my down time. And it certainly wasn't worse than boring MMO grinding. If you can play Diablo 3, you can endure the grind of an IT job.

Same. I guess the most important thing from all this is to just keep trying to overcome your fears even if the outcome isn't pretty.

>>
>>387041921
How do you get an IT job with no education?
>>
>>387039359
>How do you guys maintain a healthy lifestyle playing vidya
It's easy when you have no car and the nearest grocery store is 20 minutes away on my bicycle. Riding back and forth (most of the way back is uphill as well) a few times a week gives me a regular bit of exercise. I also do a very basic bodyweight routine every morning. I'm definitely not /fit/, but combined with eating decent food it at least keeps me from turning into a blob.

>and how do you acquire your funds for doing so?
Autismbux. I don't have actual autism, but I've got enough other shit that I can trick the gubmint into declaring me unemployable. I had a pretty nightmarish childhood so now I'm exploiting that. I don't spend much, so after rent, food, insurance, etc. I'm still left with like 150-200 bucks every month for vidya. Thanks for your tax money, wagecucks!

>Also what are you currently playing?
Stellaris. Also a bit of Total War but I'm not really feeling it. I've also been playing Fire Emblem Heroes on the side, but I'm probably dropping it soon because the grind is too much.

>I get to know him very well to the point of watching tv with him everyday after work, having dinner with him
>he passed away a year ago and left me everything because his son died of colon cancer 15 years ago and his grandson died in 12 years ago in the middle east (marine)

I'm 27 now. I worked there the whole time, I quit last year. I live in this house that I own now. I have a big share of money he left me, and I'm selling many of the acres he left me at a very high price, since it's a lot of property in a shopping area where they have been trying to build stores for 20 years but he refused to. I didn't realize how hard it was to sell acres, I was contacted immediately about selling them (I don't know how they knew) it was 3 days after finalizing paper with a lawyer. But the process takes forever because government is shit. My befriending an old man set me for life. But I befriended him because I had no friends in the first place, I was poor and lonely.

I've made a relatively successful career as a freelancer, but the life feels pretty NEET even if I am working on my own projects. Like there was a point where I could have made a whole bunch of money moving to an ad agency, but I passed because... why? Advertising is cancer, a happy family feels fucking impossible, and I don't want to feed the gov resources to kill middle easterners then turn around and tell me my ancestors and I are the cause of all problems.

So basically I don't know how everyone else isn't totally disenfranchised. But hey people think Google did the right thing firing that dude so whatever

The property I'm selling and where I am is dual zoning, both residential and commercial. The problem is they want to build stores on it. A curb runs along the entire highway against the property I'm selling. it requires removal of parts of the curb and a turn lane, which neither party gets to control. It's all waiting on the city and could take another two years.

NEET existence is only as horrible as you make it.

If you spend 8 hours a day on 4chan, yeah you will end up feeling like shit. But there's nothing stopping a NEET from having some hobbies that don't involve staring at a screen all day.

Also, if you can get any source of income (depending on where you live, getting autismbux doesn't need to be that much of an issue), move out of your parents' house ASAP. Taking care of yourself will improve your self-esteem, will teach you highly enjoyable skills like cooking (if you're not too lazy to put in the effort anyway), and will greatly improve your relationship with your family as well, as long as you don't completely shut yourself off from them.
>>
>>387040475
Assuming you pay 1000 a month for rent (which is honestly very not realistic in some states), that's 12,000 a year. 3 years would be 36k, but then that assumes you only spend 4k within three years on things like groceries, insurance, etc. So, probably 2 years.

Life is what you make it. You can be happy as a NEET or a wageslave. It all depends on how you choose to handle it.

There's a reason why there are people who live financial meager lives that are filled with happiness while people with all the money and comfort in the world suffer crippling depressing and/or kill themselves. Wealth and comfort in and of themselves are not what's going to bring your life happiness. Sure it will make it way easier for you to achieve that which makes you happy, but you need to figure out what it is you want and makes you happy. Most of the people who make these threads crying about being a wageslave or a NEET have no idea what that thing they want is, and don't realize that's why they're unhappy.

Depends on where you live I suppose.

I live in Ohio and my brother who is 32 has been receiving disability since he was 21 for "agoraphobia". He lives a normal life and goes out with his friends and shit all the time, does normal physical labor when he has to (he just finished remodeling his kitchen a couple months ago with no help from anyone else). There's literally nothing wrong with him physically but the government supports him financially because he claims to be afraid of being away from home long enough every day to hold a job.

A guy I know went NEET after college and out of boredom he started making """designer""" lamps. Two year back he sold his first batch for like $2000 a piece to some fancy bullshit store, right now he's working on new designs with better materials and is expecting to get $3-4000 a piece for them. Considering he lives in the same building as me (rents are ridiculously low here), he can stretch that money pretty far without having to rely on autismbux or anything like that.

Not exactly genius level stuff, but it shows that you can do some cool shit if you have lots of free time.

I'm a NEET and proud.

My mother is sick and my dad is afraid to leave her home alone. I spend the day doing house work and cooking. My elderly dog is a job in itself because he can no longer walk and needs to be assisted with almost everything. He's become so spoiled that he barks nonstop until someone helps him up or feeds him from his bed. My dad makes all salary, is old, and wants to retire. Everything I do I do with my mother because he's old and lonely. I'm the only friend my parents have. Send help.

You can learn to enjoy things.

About half a year ago I started doing volunteer work at a local retirement home, since I was bored out of my skull and if I did any real work I'd lose my autismbux. It's pretty boring work and at first I had to pretty much force myself to go there, but it's only a day and a half per week so it's not that bad. But over time I really started enjoying the feeling of just having something to do and some of the other volunteers are pretty cool.

Not saying you should do what I did, but you have to force yourself over that initial hurdle in order to start enjoying things again. Things are only going to get worse if you just wallow in your own misery all day erry day. It doesn't just make you unhappy, but you're also training yours own brain to stay passive. You gotta unlearn that shit.

Your other tips are good, but this one is bullshit.

You don't want to go to bed to lay there for an hour, you want to go to bed to actually sleep.

If you go to bed and don't fall asleep within 20 minutes, get out, have a glass of water, do some pushups or something, and try again half an hour later.

I already did this years ago, which I thought would be implied when I said that I "was NEET". Went to college at 23, got my degree, lost my virginity, now have a semi-good social skillset and am working my career job.

sidenote, there is no way to just "move out" as a NEET. I got out of it because I was able to go to college, but that isnt an option for most. Before that I tried to get a job and could not get hired because I had zero work experience and with shit social skills I probably failed the few interviews I had

Every time there's a neet thread, I'm always surprised at how depressed everyone is. being a neet is great, as long as you have a little bit of social skills and some confidence, it's a pretty easy way to sustain.
I'm actually looking for a job right now so I can help my grandma renovate her house, but having a goal just makes it easy to actually do

If you're cheeky enough to be a NEET, you should be able to handle some family judgment.

They can only judge you if you have the capacity to work and are not actually severely handicapped.

>Likewise, there simply is no point in waking up during the day as a NEET

I tried that when I was a NEET. It just made my sleep hygiene worse. Our bodies are conditioned to sleep at night. Fight nature and you lose eventually. It's up to you if you want to further wreck yourself.

Now I'm working an 8 to 5 in an office. Half of the time I pretend to work and it's absolutly soul crushing. The other half I work for a bit which makes time go faster. Still, in the evening when I'm home I just drink alcohol and am way too tired to watch anything, train my music skills or do anything else fun.

You guys overstate the threat of random violence. I grew up in a shitty part of LA in the 1990s when shit was totally fucked. My parents busted ass to get me into good school programs though. I went to a rough high school, but I mostly hung out with nerds, AP kids, and band geeks. Never really got into much trouble.

I live in the Valley now and it is much nicer, but I have no hesitations going downtown because,

1.) Most people (yes, even most poor minorities) are not criminals. Shocker.
2.) Most criminals aren't looking to fuck with random strangers.
3.) Crime is in the midst of a dramatic decline.

If I get shot tomorrow, that'll suck. But I will have lived a great 28 years in a happening city. I'll take that over living in Podunk, Nowheresville.

I fucked up because I was going to community college, then stopped going, so now I have to pay my student loans before I go back again. Yes. Look at housing costs all around Los Angeles, in the shittiest crime ridden areas. Homes that cost so much that if you can afford them then you could afford to live literally anywhere you want, and people buy them. Sure they have to gate their houses and hire security and go inside and lock their doors after dark to lower the chance of someone raping them at gunpoint...BUT HEY IT'S ONLY A FIVE MINUTE DRIVE FROM THE STAPLES CENTER, WORTH IT!

I think your timeline is a bit aggressive, but yeah, that's what we're moving towards. There is going to be a huge cultural upheaval.

You're going to see people getting super depressed because they feel useless. You're going to see people with jobs bitch about people without jobs because they think it is laziness, but really it's that we can't out compete machines anymore.

It's gonna get ugly. There is a utopia somewhere on the other side of it all though.

I personally am not upset with neets, but I can understand why some are. Able-bodied neets during their prime (ages 20-30) are the worst. They're fucking up their relations with the people around them and their future. They could have been padding up their work experience little by little at this period but they're flushing it down the drain. Some neets think they have an accessible escape button in suicide but won't actually have the balls to pull the trigger, thus ensuring that they'll suffer more during old age.

No it hasn't. The market in the past generated jobs nearly at the same rate as taking them from improvements in capital, but this will be different. AI will take those 4 million jobs in transportation virtually overnight, what will those 4 million people do?

Imagine a graph where you chart the growth in human capability against the growth in machine capability.

Machine capability is growing exponentially. Human capability is growing by a small, linear factor.

There is no economic law that says that humans will always be useful just like there is nothing saying that horses will always be useful. Two hundred years ago, horses served in the military, as part of most police forces, pulling carriages, plowing fields, etc.

Now horse labor is mostly a novelty. The same thing will eventually happen to human beings.

This has been my cycle as well. When working I oscillate between mild satisfaction and tedium. I eventually reach a point where I don't give a fuck anymore and start some self-destructive behavior just to liven things up a bit. Staying up too late, drinking too much, start calling in from work before just saying fuck it one day and quitting. In general I'm pretty good with my money, so I have enough in the bank to survive for a few months.

The next two months or so are filled with elation, doing whatever I want, whenever I want. Then, the complete loss of sleep regimen and order begin to take their toll. I get severely depressed and anxious to the point of just pacing around all day until I find a job. The cycle never breaks.

Working isn't so bad. My job is interesting and challenging and my coworkers are nice.

In exchange for 40 hours of my time a week, it affords me,

>a house that will be paid off at 38
>retirement savings that will free me from having to work at all by 45 if the markets appreciate at 8%
>steel cut oats, eggs, bacon, salad, grilled chicken, rice, and veggies for like, 20/21 meals a week
>A cheap cheat meal once a week. Fried seafood. Burritos, Pizza. Shit like that
>One bang out vacation a year. Traveling to other countries, or doing something expensive domestically
>Pretty much all the "Cheap trips" I want. i.e., cheap domestic flights, cheap motels, road trips, National Parks, etc.
>A new video game every once in awhile.

If you're not addicted to consuming expensive, useless shit, a moderate income job in America can give you an amazing life.

no, I think it's pretty good for 40 hours a week of work. I'm saying I would rather make 70k a year and work than not have to work and make nothing. I probably wouldn't work for less than 50k if I didn't have to.

Being someone's wageslave is nothing to be proud of, you're seriously not better than a neet, you're just forced to work for someone.

Statistician. I live in a suburb of Denver, CO. I'm lucky in that I make good money and have a cooperative girlfriend. So maybe I'm a bit of an outlier, but most people can improve their standing significantly in America.

Read the blog MrMoneyMustache. Changed my life. Basically, it helped me realize a bunch of really helpful things about happiness like,

Eating McDonalds for breakfast is more expensive than waking up ten minutes earlier to cook my own breakfast and it doesn't make me happier.

Building a video game collection is expensive and doesn't make me happier. Buying a game, playing it for a few months, and selling it because I realize that only a small handful of games will I ever go back to play again, is cheap. And it makes me happy.

Staying in nice hotels doesn't make me happier than staying in cheap motels for $40 a night.

I can pack light an fly cramped on Spirit if it saves me considerable money. Flying a better airline may make me happier, but not $100+ happier.

Eating at a fancy restaurant for special occasions doesn't make me happier than ordering a bomb ass pizza from the place around the corner for $10.

Canned and frozen food is pretty bad for you anon. It's not just sugars and fats and carbs you have to worry about like everyone memes on with their diets. Sodium's a killer too; it will fuck you up in the long run just like all that other shit, and it's FUCKING EVERWHERE. You can't even get a reliably decent meal from a restaraunt that's not loaded up with sodium. My dad died before he hit 60 because this shit fucked up his liver.

It's so much healthier to buy fresh vegetables and eat those, and the only downside of it is that you might have to go to the grocery store twice as much.

so ramen and microwave burritos fit right in my budget (spoonfulls of peanut butter and instant oatmeal for breakfast are also a big part of my diet).
And it may not seem like it, but figuring out what actually is the healthier option is harder than it looks at first. If something natural, but higher in sodium, is it an improvement? What if is lower in sodium, but higher in carbs? And so on. It seems there is always some trade off.

This. Took me a long time to learn to cook halfway decently, but the internet is such a great resource.

There are also a ton of products that are great stepping stones. Steam-in-bag vegetables are a dollar and are easy as fuck. Stouffers makes these seasoning wraps where you just pound a chicken breast flat, trim the fat, wrap it in the paper wrap, and throw it in a pan over medium heat for ten minutes on each side.

You can get 2lbs of chicken breast at a discount grocer for $6. The wraps are 4 for $2. Vegetables are $1 per bag.

For $12, you can cook four reasonably healthy dinners.

Is there maybe something you're really interested in? Something that you could turn into a profession?

A lot of people end up studying again or learning a different trade, either because they aren't interested in what they were doing in the first place or they happen to be not skilled enough (bad education). I don't know how job centers in your country work, but try consulting them, maybe they got some programs going on that could interest you. Also, you don't have to go to a gym or swimming pool if you're ashamed of your body. Maybe try cycling, I sometimes leave my car at home just to cycle at work (even if I have to get up way earlier).

I know how it feels to be a NEET. It's a vicious cycle of anxiety, hopelessness and laziness. It's not easy getting back on track but I'm sure you can do it. Also, think of your parents. They're in their sixties, they've got better things to do than supporting you 24/7. And what will you do if they die of age or from an accident? Keep that in mind.
>>
>>387049869
And thus comes the upset/hate/frustration, not just concern, from those parents. Mind that I was originally replying to >>387047971 You can't just fault the parents alone at that point. The neet must be doing something deserving of hate.

I create social media compatible advertisements with meme qualities and sell them to video game companies as 5-10 pieces a package. Text, images, webms - anything that appears to the audience as made by a user but is actually done for commercial reasons. It's basically creating OC that would be well received on /v/ or reddit but I do it for money instead of attention.

Well, we were in an apartment that had gotten to $715 in rent, and that was the absolute lowest in the area. It was going up to 800 so I decided to get a mortgage on a house instead, and that's less than $650 a month. There's also electricity, which is between 50 and a 100 a month. And internet, at around 50 dollars. Food is comparatively cheep. He doesn't eat much, and doesn't like much. He won't eat most of the stuff I buy (like that oatmeal, or those canned veggies I talked about), so when he is in the mood for something besides the daily hot pockets and ramen that are the only thing we have he'll eat, it means going out (i.e. fast food). So roughly 5 dollars per person for a single meal on my days off. He's also up to about 4 cans of soda a day. He doesn't drink much else. But the cheep ones are less than $5 for a 24 pack so that doesn't cost too much, even though this particular expense annoys me more because it's the one thing I wouldn't buy myself if he wasn't around.

This is the kind of thing I'm still getting the hang of. There are some basic things like stir fry or various pasta dishes which are cheap as fuck and decent enough health wise, but then I get into these recipes which require like 20 ingredients that I'll only ever use once and it's honestly cheaper to get takeout at that point. I guess my biggest problem is just pre-planning when I go grocery shopping. I can't seem to hammer out like 20 meals in advance that all use the same ingredients. I end up buying like a pound of shit when I only need a teaspoon and I end up having to throw out more than I can even eat.

Nerdy shit which I never had the grades or drive for. Computer science in general is interesting, especially cryptography. And I have a grasp of it, I can play games like TIS100, which is basically coding basic shit in assembly. But when it comes time to go past the logic, pick a programming language and learn it, I lose all will to go on.

Then there's aeronautics and mechanics, planes and helicopters are rad. Rockets and missiles and even just guns in general too. But I'm a fat guy nearing 30, I'd probably have a heart attack if I joined the military, and the civilian approach is bleak; Planes and helicopters are hundreds of thousands of dollars, and getting a license that allows you to even make a penny off of it takes hundreds and hundreds of hours.

Welfare in my country lasts for six months, if you don't find a job after that and keep it for at least a year, you're done, no more money, and that money doesn't even pay for 80% of a single rent on all six months (yes, all the money gathered in six months that you get, the total welfare, doesn't total up to a single rent of a month)
I don't have autism or any health problem.
No inheritance and no parents to keep me either.

Trump has expressed sympathy to at will employment and wants it to spread. At will employment means your boss can fire you at anytime for any grievance without any sort of notice.

The gig economy is one where all workers are treated as temporary freelancers (see no benefits, no need to give payback for lost wages, no job security). As of 2017 1/4 of Americans work within the gig economy in some form or another with this number increasing steadily.

Both these trends make working in America undesirable for any sane individual.

Internet is fairly ubiquitous these days. I pay for my own internet and shit (wagecuck) but I can access open wifi from where I live anyway. A place to sleep in is easy too, there are usually parents, grandparents, friends, roommates, or even Section 8 housing if need be. Welfare and/or disability also pays more than a minimum wage part time job, so public assistance is more than enough to get by.

All told, this is probably why I don't give a dime to bums. Just think how badly you actually have to fuck up to not have a place to live when there are people who do literally nothing and still never go hungry or get rained on.
>>
>>387051494
You certainly can. If your skillset is a technical one, and you aren't employed within the first year of graduation, those skills very quickly become out of date (depending on the field). An employer is then going to start looking for fresher graduates, instead of paying you to go back to school for a refresher course.

That's very shortsighted of you because advertising in itself is nothing but playing your shallow personality to peddle you wares. You are like a cat being thrown a ball of yarn - lacking the self control to overcome the urge to jump right in.

You pretend it's a deception but in the end you are fully aware that advertisement is fake, yet you go for it again and again and again, have done so all your life.
What I'm saying here is that it's not advertising that's the problem - it's your lack of character to resist shallow impulse and biased, superficial information, despite being aware of everything you need to know to control and overcome it.
You want to be misled, you want to be part of a social bubble that praises one another for having bought into something. It's the core of consumerism and you are too weak to reject it and live with out. Individualism is dead, this is what society wants instead and it's what the industry provides.

The second people stop to buy advertised items and start to rely on unbiased journalistic investigation or certifiable peer reviews the advertisement industry would crumble and cease to exist. It's just that consumers don't want it to. They like to be spun into feel-good lies and pretend buying a product elevates them to a chosen circle of people who are "in on it" while everyone else is missing out.

I haven't made those systems and rules - I'm just selling a very minor, specialized item to a massive industry that billions of people around the world validate every day of their life by buying marketed shit. The irony here is that I use the funds to buy marketed shit myself. It's what we do in capitalist consumerism oriented societies. And you surely realize that everything around us is merely a delusion to cope with our existence - especially video games. We live lies without purpose and all that makes us happy is buying shit to forget the truth.
>>
>>387051046
As someone who struggled with that, I can give you a few easy solutions.

1. Buy whatever seasonings you want. They don't really go bad as long as you store them in a dark place.

2. Like the person you replied to, steam in the bag veggies are great.

3. Quart size freezer bags are your friend. Buy a ton of meat? Bag and freeze what you're not going to eat in the next 2 days. Put frozen meat in the fridge for a day or two to thaw out before using.

4. Olive oil, butter, garlic, and pasta go a long way in making side dishes to go with your meat of choice and vegetable bag of choice. You can also buy bags of pasta mixes for a buck each that would feed two people with a full meal or, if you're a hungry person, just you.

5. Don't eat three meals a day just because you consider it normal. Make food and eat when you're hungry. For me, that tends to come out to 2 meals a day. Once at 10:30 AM and once at 4 PM. Knowing your bodies own schedule rather than forcing yourself on an arbitrary schedule can help you plan meals easily.

I trade stocks for a living, allows me to live doing what I want. I don't get rich off of it, I make around 1000/week or so, which is slightly above a standard 40k/year job. What's great is that I decide when I work. I get up and make a good trade at market open 9:30AM, make a few hundred, and I'm out, can do whatever I want for the rest of the day.

Hell this past Monday I made a 500$ trade in premarket, took the rest of monday and tuesday off.

>20 ingredients

Yeah I generally don't fuck with recipes that are over 7 or 8 ingredients. I just want to make my own food healthy and cheap. Don't need to be Gordon Ramsey up in this bitch. I rely heavily on using stuff like packets of seasoning or all purpose cajun spices rather than recipes that are like, (1 tsp of cumin, 1 tsp of paprika, 1 tsp of chili powder, 1/2 tsp of black pepper, salt to taste).

Grocery stores sell packets of seasoning for like, .79 cents. A packet of taco seasoning + 1 pound of ground beef + an onion = some nice tacos.

A packet of fajita seasoning + a pound of steak or chicken + 2 chopped bell peppers = fajitas.

A packet of thick and zesty spaghetti seasoning + a six ounce can of tomato paste + 1/2 lb of ground beef = bomb ass pasta sauce. Much better than the stuff that comes out of the jar. Supplement with a bag of frozen veggies for a buck.

The above three recipes will leave you with nothing leftover but tortillas, cheese, salsa, and spaghetti. Stuff that will keep for a few weeks. Not the healthiest shit in the world, but it will get you started cooking more regularly.

I don't know how close you live to a grocery store, but something that really helped me was to make smaller, but more frequent trips. So like, I'll go on a Monday, and buy meat depending upon what is on sale. So maybe I'll buy two pounds of chicken, and everything I need to make my next three dinners with it. That way I make a plan and avoid waste.

Why do wagies have to constantly repeat to themselves (and project to the world) that they're happy?
>>
>>387052343
Many people feel useless if they don't have a certain love for a job or for some paid work. If they don't find that passion or at least pleasure to do something that others will pay them to do, they're left with the option work basically on the rice field where it is easy to feel useless, like you don't mean anything to anyone or even the project you're working on, you're just a cog in a vast machine, and you're inter-changeable, like a real cog.
If you find a job that you like or live, you're basically not working anymore, you're making money by doing something you like.
Way too many people can't find that love.
>>

>I want off the ride but I don't want to work some shit retail job

Shitty attitude.

Retail blows. I won't pretend that it doesn't. But it can be a great step towards getting off the ride of NEEThood. It gets you,

>A steady paycheck
>A reason to go outside
>Opportunities to talk to people, deal with customers, work on social skills
>Opportunities to make friends with co-workers
>Kills gap in your employment history

Some people get lucky. They get born into rich families and either never have to work, or don't have to work until they're out of college and go straight into a good job.

Yeah, they're lucky. And it's not fair. But suck it up.

I worked in restaurants for six years before starting the career that would eventually make me six figures. I didn't like the work, but it paid the bills and gave me some disposable income. It helped me come out of my shell as a shy person. I made friends. I dated a few girls.

The work sucks and I never want to go back to it. It improved my life dramatically though and I will always be grateful for that.

You don't even know what ads are anymore these days. Most youtube content, Twitch streamers, many images, videos, stories that make the rounds on forums or twitter are advertisement. A third of threads on /v/ are done for ad purposes. A ton of what you consider harmless "user content" is created to market something to you. Some of it by companies, some of it by individuals with an agenda who want to sell you an idea or view with it or are just obsessed fanboys. You are being bombared every day with that online, you're just not aware or think about it. The advertisement industry has gotten so much smarter as people began to rebel, started to block ads on websites, started to get angry at marketing claims, called conventional methods out for being nothing but lies. They went subversive. Guerilla marketing is so 1990 already, they've moved on far beyond that.

Modern advertisement happens disguised as social interactions. It's someone pretending to be part of your social circles, someone like you or someone who shares some of your views or tastes, pretending to have fun with something or being excited about it. You are way behind the curve if you think an ad can be adblocked.
The only way to counter this is to second-guess every bit of seemingly harmless social interaction but not only do you often have no information at all to counter any claim (as a product is new) but it would also mean you couldn't read internet forums casually anymore, you couldn't take in the all the bullshit others jump at and be part of it. You'd have to be a full-on individualist and that means being very alone when the rest of society instead clings to eachother, tries to form mainstream opinion in small bubbles they carve for themselves online, the whole world globally connected via the the internet.

Maybe you like metal or wood working? Sewing and designing clothes? Measuring and calibration? As I said, give the job center a shot. What they usually do is send you to companies for a day or two and let you work there.
