Can anyone recommend a good gaming laptop? I need a laptop as I spend a lot of time on trains. I've got a Switch, but it can't run Excel and Access. Want a comfy laptop so I can game whilst I commute then use it at work.

>making a pc is easy, you're just stupid
Yeah because you looked it up, learned how to do it and did it.
I can say learning japanese, or C++ is easy becuase I looked it up, learned how to do it and did it.
Doesn't mean a person who's never done it before will say, wow this is easy and do it.
People are easily turned off from first glances, building a pc is one of them.

>assembling a PC from a few standardized components is in any way comparable to most of your examples or in any way difficult
May as well consider hooking your gaming device up to a TV to be assembling your gaming device from scratch at that point.
>>
>>387034164
I can say quantum mechanics, building your phone or almost anything is easy and give thousands and thousands of guides.
Doesn't mean it is easy for everybody or that it looks approachable to the average Joe.

Also people just don't want to build all their shit.
Do you make every single thing you eat?
I mean making your own food let's you avoid preservatives and other bad things you don't want in your body. It also saves money. It really is the better option.
Or would you have somebody else make it for you because it's easier?
>>
>>387033917
I build my first PC at the age of 12 in 2000 without internet access just with the help of magazines and I'm a normal fucking guy. All you need to do is read and follow simple instructions.
>>
>>387033917
>master0021
>>
>>387034487
Sure thing and I learned a language at 6, without guides or the internet it's really not hard, I mean I was a kid.
Why can't you learn 2 languages or more as an adult. I mean I did it as a kid.
>>
>>387034586
Jokes on you, I learned German in the last 3 years and recently scored "Muttersprachen Niveau" in a standardized test.
>>
>>387034481
But learning to make a PC isn't hard and unlike food is something that can be done once and be set for 3-5 years or more.
>Not making your own phone
Building something on your own can be satisfying.
Also average Joe is basically retarded and the reason the game industry right now is so fucked.

>Yeah because you looked it up, learned how to do it and did it.

I literally never built a computer before I built the one I am using right now. The only research I did was looking up what parts to buy, for which I used this website. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/
If you build your rig on that website even a retard can buy a bunch of part that will be compatible.
After that I just shopped around for the best deal, ultimately buying all the parts from 3 websites, novatech, ebuyer and amazon.

Once the parts arrived it is like assembling lego. The motherboard comes with an instruction manual. You read it and do what it says. That's it.

Learning a language or a skill is something difficult, which takes time. Building a PC is something can be done entirely in one afternoon.

Making a pc is easy, you're just stupid.
>>
>>387034828
So tell me anon for that satisfaction do you build everything you own on your own?

No learning a language is easy, you're just stupid.
I can give you a ton of sites and youtube videos for what you're trying to learn. probably even more resources than you can find for building a pc.

I mean it only makes sense, if I can do it and think it's easy, and if you say it's hard that means you're stupid.

Yeah no
All laptop components are just watered down version of their desktop counterpart because they generate less heat and draw less power
I5 laptop is just on pair with i3 desktop of same gen, or even worse
Same deal with gpu
Laptop hdd is the 2.5" and is much slower than 3.5" hdd desktop
Then we have proprietary drivers that will be dropped support after 2 years
And they age like shit too, when your laptop become outdated you will have to buy a new one while with pc you can replace parts
>>
>>387032454
Gaming laptops are more expensive and perform worse than gaming desktops, is the point. If you need a laptop and you want to game on it, of course buying one laptop is cheaper than buying a laptop and a desktop.

Hell, that picture alone proves it. You pay $400 for a shitty desktop that's just as good (or better) as a $600 laptop.

Besides, if you're not using your laptop for gaming, then why would you spend $450 on it? Basic shit like browsing the web, reading your emails and using Office doesn't warrant such a price, and if your job requires you to do more than that with your laptop then they will supply you with one.

I bought an Alienware 17R4 after I graduated A-School (military training) because I knew I'd be on the move a lot in the Navy. I couldn't be any happier to be honest. I never expected to be so pleased with a gaming laptop of all things. I have a tower back home in storage that I do miss, but I simply couldn't bring it with me.

I got a pretty ballin' deal on this Alienware though. GTX 1070, 16GB RAM, i7 7700HQ Kaby Lake, SSD and HDD of course as well as a 1440p monitor at 120hz. I picked it up for $1,600 which was a hell of a lot cheaper than literally everything else I was looking at. It's also one of the only gaming laptops that doesn't look like complete and total shit.
>>
I have a "gaming" Laptop since it was a gift. Its pretty good desu, but you cant play any demanding games on it without it melting the table and flying to the ceiling.

These little pieces of shit just arent made for that

So far since joining the military, while I hate it at times, I've been given free schooling, I got to move Japan which I've always wanted to do, I'm getting paid a pretty good salary and I'm becoming a more responsible and better man daily.

Feels pretty good.
>>
>>387038535
Do some research. $1,600 for the specs I got in a laptop was one of the cheapest options available. Everything else I looked at was either 300 - 400 more or looked like so much ass I skipped it. I was very skeptical of the Alienware at first but after using it for some time I don't get the hate. It's properly cooled, built like a tank and has one of the most satisfying keyboards I've used.

That's actually another reason I got it,it didn't have the annoying ass chicklet spaced keys.

What's a good laptop for up to GameCube/Wii emulation for around $600-$800usd max?
>>

The gaming laptop has a GTX 1050, it says so in the image.
If you mean the other laptop (the 'non shit' one), it's not listed, but it shouldn't matter since the desktop/PS4 is used for gaming in those scenarios.

>>387035894
>>387038535
GTX 10 series GPUs have near parity with their desktop versions. CPUs are still watered down.

Like any windows based laptop you get what you pay for , sub $1,000 laptops will have cut a hell of alot of corners to pad out the spec sheet.

if you care about ssd , built quality , screen quality , keyboard , trackpad , sound quality , cooling that doesn't sound like a jet engine, your not getting that for $600.
>>
>>387039331
wii/ps2 cost 15-30 dollars each, x360/ps3 is 50-100 dollars, a used vita/2ds ~30 dollars (not updated on these prices i don't like portables very much)

you get master system/mega drive/nes/snes/gb/gbc/gba/some n64/gamecube/wii/ps1/ps2/ps3/various arcade systems/x360/ds/3ds/psp/psvita games, can even hook up the consoles to a crt for 240p using rca cables

just get a shitty laptop

actually, since Pascal rolled around, nVidia actually put a real desktop 1060,1070 and 1080 in laptops. However, they downclocked it, but to compensate, they put twice the number of cuda cores.

So, sometimes a mobile pascal (bar 1050ti and below) actually runs the game better than the desktop pascal cards.

That's what most people who build pcs say. Their ad populum while to the general populace it's the opposite.
To normal people who've never touched a pc it looks daunting. Like let's say I asked you to build a mobile phone or learn a language. Sure there's guides for those and through research you can do those. It might even be easy for you.
However that doesn't really make it any more approachable.
It's not an easy feat not does it look approachable for the normal person.
To me learning a language is easy to you building a computer is easy.
It doesn't make it true.

so, now I just buy a prebuilt or laptop, then with a console as my main gaming machine.

depends on you, but as I have tested all of them, I would say:

Acer: best price/spec ratio. best keyboard of all gaming laptops. very heavy though.

Asus: worst keyboard. absolute retarded chasis designs. Overpriced

MSI: everything is middle, not good, not bad. no garish chasis apart from the G series logo. cheaper than Asus usually by 100 USD.

HP: Absolute shit. overpriced and still underspecced.

Lenovo: 2nd if not the most ridiculous chassis, just behind Asus ROG.
