I had a SCH in Ala Mhigo yesterday who started off the raid encouraging us to take it slow. When the tank ignored them and went for big dick pulls, the SCH did nothing but spam Physick on the tank until he died. The SCH proceeded to cry and whine that he couldn't keep up with that many targets despite only using one ability and me and the other DPS weren't getting hit at all so only the tank needed healing.

Never left a duty early before and took the lock out, but I got right the fuck out of there. I hate playing on Odin. So many lazy French and German players that refuse to put in even the bare minimum amount of effort.

Good dps players make things go way faster. I've had parties for Palace of the Dead where all four people would be attacking a mimic but still fail to kill it before it poxes someone, and I've had parties where two dps players burst it down before the cast bar got 3/4ths full.

Not the case in FFXIV anymore. Red Mage put all healers in the shed.

We now have a DPS class that not only deals the second most overall damage in the game, but can also raise/heal/restore MP.

Red Mage can pick up groups from impossible situations. They can instant raise every other GCD as well as single target heal for a very decent amount in between. Healers cant compare when it comes to rescuing a failing run.

The issue is that there is no depth in Healer or Tank gameplay to begin with. Progression is never stop-gapped by Tanks for a reason. The only reason Healing in XIV can be considered difficult is due to cd usage in prog season being 2x harder to figure out than tank shit. Exdeath is a joke once you know when to pop healing cds. Same with Neo. Damage is the most natural and most practical way of qualifying a shit player of any role from a good one, making the most of your gcds and abilities to heal/tank through an encounter minimally while doing well in numbers.

Red Mage is absolutely not the highest DPS, but considering Yoshi's statement on utility versus damage, it's fucking stupidly overpowered. I feel like that statement ONLY applies to samurai, because everywhere else the classes with the most utility are also the strongest.

That's the tank's fault. A tank player shouldn't expect superb healing from the get go. You do small pulls, gauge the intelligence and capbilities of your team, and then react accordingly.

Do the DPS players stay out of harms way or do they constantly get in the way of AOEs or keep trying to draw agro on the monster you're not focusing?

Is the Healer more focussed on DPSing over healing? Do they know how to use more than just one or two healing spells? Do they prioritize healing orders correctly? Do they utilize their other buffs in tandem with healing? Are they casting spells quickly or just waiting around?

Are you tanking damage efficiently? Is your healer consistently drained of mana at the end of each pull? Are you keeping agro effectively?

You get a feel for how your team is doing and respond to that. Take a nibble, and if you can manage another bite, go for it.
Don't bite off more than you can chew and blame your team for fucking up because you overloaded them.
This is the easiest way to succeed consistently.

I'm only just chiming in to this conversation now ( >>387037031 was my first post) but I absolutely agree that RDM is currently too good for the kind of utility it brings. Same with BRD. I can't really personally speak for BRD because the last time I played it was back in 3.3 but RDM needs some major nerfs to actually bring it back in line with the dev team's philosophy regarding damage vs utility.
Samurai, however, I think is absolutely fine. And I'm not just saying this because I play Samurai.
If you're bringing a Samurai to raids or whatever, you're literally just bringing raw damage, and that's what SAM is very good at. The only utility SAM brings is a slashing debuff (that two other jobs now bring as part of their normal rotations too) and whatever role skills you pick. The rest is damage.
Samurai is fine as it is, Red Mage is not.

Is there a way to get kills consistently in PvP?
I started leveling RDM via Frontlines yesterday (never really touched PvP beforehand), and have had about 20 matches since then; the whole while I've only got Battle High 3-4 times. The RDM melee combo alone can't burst someone down from full, so it feels like you can't beat people unless it's >2 vs. 1.

The very second a tank performs any action that isn't Provoke or Flash, they are DPSing. Their enmity-generating combos have potency values attached to them, meaning that even when they're building an enmity lead, they're DPSing. In fact, Paladin is the ONLY tank job capable of generating enmity with a GCD skill while not dealing damage.
Are you saying that tanks should only use their threat combos? How fucking boring would that be? Imagine it.

I tried Garuda EX for the first time with a friend and we both thought the fight was pretty easy after we knew what to do, but it ended up taking like an hour because some people just kept fucking up the most basic shit.

Maybe the other ones are harder, but I really don't want to do them unless I can get a mostly full party of people I can trust not to fuck up

Their main weakness are cast times, which means you can break line of sight with them. But many people don't do that and they let you chunk them.

Depends on the party, the fight itself is really easy. Just brng down adds and kill when they have vril and in third phase use vril when she glows black, that's it basicly.
Finding a DF party that understands that is another thing

Your point would be valid if procs weren't random. Lining up wildfires and executing them during mechanics is incomparably harder than spamming your melee dps shit, you can literally do it with muscle memory alone. Try pressing the same 3 buttons all over, see where you end up in the dps list and let me know.

I'll just explain 1 wildfire to you. Ok is my reload coming off cooldown, okay now clean shot is active but I have to use reload or else I'll misalign it so do I use split shot or spend the ammo on the clean shot, but if I do that that means I can't do 1-2-1 in prep for wildfire because the second slug shot might not proc. Oh wait I can use a quick reload but then my clean shot might not proc during wildfire. Oh shit my wf is up but the add has spawned but it'll be dead before wf goes off but I can't use it on the boss because I have to damage the add, but do I just sacrifice the wf to avoid misalignment. Oh shit is my hot shot up, oh shit I clipped a weave well there goes my last cooldown in wf. Etc etc. No depth indeed.

Now imagine that going through your head in o3s in the third phase.
