Having to pay for the game doesn't bother me, but it certainly limits your playerbase in this case. Blizzard can get away with it because they have a huge following so people would be willing to pay for Overwatch no matter what.

Their biggest marketing push was having some big streamers sponsored to play the game, but that did nothing in this case.

I definitely saw it around, but I don't think the push was big enough compared to other games. I pretty much saw no media coverage or youtube content on it. Even on release it barely had a presence on Steam's header and that was only for a short while before TI came through.

You also have to think about what kind of push another shooter needs to be successful in this market. The only thing that Lawbreakers had to its name was Cliffy B was on it and people don't really care about him anymore. Unless you shill the fuck out of it, you're not getting anything.

The target audience for this has no desire to play SJW pander fest with extra bad ass quips. The gameplay is solid and everything else is trash.

Game just isn't very good. At the end of the day loads of people tried the beta and decided not to buy it.

It's a bastard mix between Overwatch and traditional arena shooters. Blizzdrones will just carry on playing Overwatch. People like me who come from a Quake/Tribes/UT background just immediately notice all the cancerous shit like 'ults'.
Basically it manages to alienate both groups of people in some way and gets left with nothing

I can't speak for the gameplay because I haven't played and I'm not familiar enough with the genre to say if it's this or that, but I would say it was a case of lackluster marketing.
To have a marketing of the levels of Overwatch is nearly impossible, but this game had none that catched the attention. No magazines talking about the game, no many trailers showing the gameplay in depth, nothing like comics or animations developing the heroes storries and making consumers attached to them before the game released.
It's like they didn't want people to know they were releasing a game. Overwatch release date, even Battleborn was well know beforehand, can you say the same about this game?
