I played 999 and VLR beforehand, so it wasn't as impactful since a lot of the twists are reused in those games.

Though, the whole 2017/2034 thing made me shit myself. This scene was also really well done.

I thought Ever17 was decently good. With a decent ending. Which is pretty high praise because I went into it hearing the twist ending hyped to hell and back for years. I expected some kind of meta-narrative and a time travel twist, and I got it.

Most emotional twist(s) I've gotten out of a VN are still from Symphonic Rain. That one had me physically ill from the twist's whiplash. Though in hindsight it might be more obvious, I'm not sure if I was just dumb. Recommend it to anyone anyways.

You too. I think why it worked so well for me is that I picked it up for the fun looking rhythm game mixed into the story. Mystery stuff like Ever17 and Seacats and Fata Morgana you're fully braced for a twist so it might not hit as hard.

Tief Blau virus was swimming around down there, and there was thermal energy for power. So it was a perfect place. And the park was a cover, so they could bring in scientists and funds and actually build the thing right under the government's nose.

Although now that I think about it, I don't know why they'd have to be secretive about just researching the cure to this deadly virus. The liefenblik-something company was doing other horrible shit like experimenting on X-men mutants like Tsugumi. But did they need to be secretive about their virus lab? Maybe they were weaponizing it actually. I don't remember too much.

Good shit. Things are a lot more vague because Nakazawa and Uchi decided they wanted to RLLY mak yu think this time so they ditched actually explaining things straight out, but all ends + tips + official timeline + some parts of explainremember11 puts the pieces together. It's also in general better quality than e17, much better pacing, characters, and tension all the way through.

Pretty much this. Imagine my disappointment when I played 999 after all the praise the game got.
It's literally just Ever17 all over again, except not even that good.
I haven't even bothered with VLR after that. The terrible voice acting of the mascot kinda killed all my interest.
