Why do all Australian game studios die so quickly and painfully?
Government used to give subsidies for domestically-produced film, television, video games, etc.
They decided it wasn't necessary; that our economy based on agriculture and mining was good enough, and since the 20th century have been slowly cutting funding to artistic pursuits.
We actually had a film scene that was better than Hollywood at one point, but the government didn't support it so it died.

If it was actually good it would've turned a profit instead of relying on taking other people's money.

This. This is why all of our media are bland morning shows, talk shows or shitty dramas which everyone forgets about quickly. The only way to get any financial support for media projects is to go to Film Australia these days.
