Why is this portable console more expensive than the powerful PS4?

That's not necessarily the case with Nintendo's offerings. The Wii U still retails for $300 MSRP, despite even Nintendo admitting that the damn thing was a commercial bust and trying to kick it down the memory hole in favor of the Switch.

It's a brand new console. PS4 is several years old and has a newer model so of course it's cheaper.

My theory is that we probably won't see a price drop for a while, at least until a newer model comes out or sales suddenly start plummeting. Nintendo usually doesn't drop prices unless thigns get bad, like with the 3DS.

But even if there is a price drop it won't be a massive amount, probably to like $275.

ironically, the PS3 had the exact opposite problem - with the cell architecture being too complicated that developers couldn't port games for a few years.
