Fixed many of the flaws from Morrowind.
The scaling (Loot and Level) was bad.
Side/Faction quests were the best in the series.

scaling was way too much, gradual scaling doesn't bother me but Oblivion went overboard with it. Using mods fixed this quite well though and I love Oblivion.

The other issue was that Oblivion was very easy to cheese with magic. Spell making is always OP so I see why they did away with it in Skyrim. Good times but I really had to use some willpower to not make a cheesy drain health/weakness stacking touch spell and run around murdering everything for <10 mana.

Shivering Isles was amazing and the physics and graphics were outstanding for their time. Overall I truly loved Oblivion and spent hours on the game. Morrowind drew me into the lore much more but I can't deny Oblivion had better gameplay imo (aside from cheesy spells and spell making, you could get far crazier in Morrowind due to the spell variety).

Amazing quests, best OST of any game ever made, incredible art direction (calling it generic is a shitty meme spouted by morrowbabbies mad there are no mushroom trees), best combat in the series, but unfortunately too much stripped away from the MW complexity of social structure and RPG mechanics. Modded it's easily the best TES hands down being that Morrowind (yet) doesn't have mods to make it as great as modded Morrowind and Skyrim can't have it's absolutely garbage quests and cities overhauled without another AAA budget to fix it

Manages to be even worse than Skyrim. People praise the quests because at one point suddenly all of them are not about hacking away at people and things.

The early stages of Morrowinds combat ,though bad, isn't its worst problem.
After lvl 20 the game loses all sense of danger and becomes a hiking sim.
For a game that you can put hundreds of hours into this is unforgivable.
That is its biggest flaw by far.

I genuinely really enjoy Oblivion. I like the traditional high fantasy aesthetic, it's just a comfy fucking game. I like the combat and love the spellcrafting. Sure, it's kind of cheesy at times, the character models are absolute ass (I honestly think Morrowind's looked better, even the beast races, and I think Skyrim's look better too, they have cool Argonians ,and learning about the level scaling - which I didn't know much about before - is certainly a major flaw, but I find myself being able to get lost in it so easily. Lots to do and see. I certainly dumped as many hours into it as Skyrim, if not more, still waiting for a decent PC to play Morrowind properly, because my first and only playthrough of that was on the fucking Xbox.

Shallow with absolutely no variation. Oblivion Gates had some different layouts and types within them, they were small contained areas. Skyrim dungeons are straight up linear, no branching paths, near to no side areas, just so little to do or see. Skyrim suffered from a severe lack of variety in every aspect.

All that changed was the removal of a few effects. It's a negative change yea but not as bad as the Oblivion -> Skyrim changes.

I played the shit out of oblivion with no mods several times.

Skyrim was such a let down in comparison I only put 4 hours into it before getting fed up with how many features they removed from Oblivion.

What's funny to me is that most people I've met and discussed oblivion with felt that magic was underpowered and useless. I can only imagine they spec'd for a sword and board warrior 100% and then were upset that the starting flare spell did no damage.

Best quests in the series imo, main quest was pretty boring but all of the Elder Scrolls games have boring main quests. I just wish it was like Morrowind where if you knew what you were doing you could just skip everything and fight the final boss.

Combat was good. You don't have as many options or crazy build opportunities as Morrowind, but magic is still better than Skyrim's.

Level scaling is a problem and it's definitely a glaring flaw you'll start to notice throughout the game, especially now when you replay it, but it's not game breaking like a lot of people say it is. It's still fun.

The weird AI and wonky, cartoonish looking graphics are more charming than awkward in my opinion. Just a weird quirk of the game.
