"Estimates are just estimates, we will delay shit if its not done etc. etc."

So would /v/ rather this game be shit, or be delayed?

I got no horse in this race, just wondering. I'd think them actually making the game they promised would turn out better than releasing No Mans Sky 2.0.

The hell is this report? How does developing stamina take longer than persistent damage? Stamina is just a bar on the UI connected to a player variable that increases or decreases. How does it take 3 months to develop. Does this stamina system accurately calculate stamina levels based on temperature, oxygen uptake and last meal based on calorie content?

Don't worry, video game industry will never die. The most popular game is giving preference to facecam people over customers, the entire AAA / big budget project side of things is run as thinly veiled gambling for children scheme and patreons of numales regurgitating wiki articles fetch more money in a month that most developers see in a fiscal quarter.

Hell, normies are now paying to have emulators put behind a paywall.

I'd rather they cut some stretch goals. What they're attempting to do is ridiculous and I can not even begin to imagine a world where they manage to fulfill half of those goals.
The real question is indeed when will it release but in what state ?
>>
>>386994910
launching missiles crashes the server atm, also lol if you think you can find a server with 6 people on

but no, even if that were possible at the moment it wouldn't be fun more than once or twice and there is jack shit else to do

not like 12 on the same scene ?
>>
>>386997374

Currently the server sends every action every player takes to every other player. So if you load in with your giant ship, it has to send 5MB of data to everyone online.
>>
>>386997502
IIRC, isn't this part of why missiles mess up everything? Each missile is an AI-controlled flying object, so if you start firing missiles it has to send all of that extra data to everyone.
>>
>>386997632
>so if you start firing missiles it has to send all of that extra data to everyone.

Yes, while simultaneously processing character movement, gun reloading, ship movements, spawning etc..

on the off chance it actually does come out i still won't play it because i know as soon as i log in i'll get instantly killed by an early backer who bought $50,000 in ships and ingame resources. release would be a complete shitshow.

>There are either long delays, cut features or both that you just won't see because it's not public.
both of those things happened in chris's previous attempt at a game because he ran out of money due to feature creep and had to let a different company buy out what they actually had done for it to be released at all.

Holy shit I just feel for the guy. What's apparent from that video is that the game wasn't constructed from a mass networking perspective from the start, which is a fucking nightmare. He's working salvage on a pile of shit already constructed. This is the guy actually turning the game into a game.

And they only have 3 network programmers working on the hardest and most important aspect of the game's development. Working with Chris Roberts must be a fucking nightmare.

I read recently about the crazy shit they did to avoid the ridiculous number of calculations you need to do for collisions normally. Good shit:

>Originally, the random seed to generate the EVE universe was taken from the server's Epoch Time at the start of the universe generation. The guy in charge decided, the night before launch, to regenerate the entire universe at the last minute with the seed "42."
Both ideas are really cool.

at this rate, we'll be flying real spaceships around, still waiting for it to release.
it'll be an alternate history game instead.

they should get cleve "thals are my pals" blakeman in to help
he knows about how to get a game done on time.
>>

wasn't this game supposed to be released by now?

How the fuck did anyone think this was a good idea. This game was nothing but fancy looking PR to convince people to invest more money into the game.

I mean FUCK they focused on graphics before gameplay or anything else.
>>
>>387003404
If you had the patience to wait for the game you have the patience to play at 3 fps so I don't see the problem.

Memes aside, Star Citizen is a pretty damn fun game. Exploring space husks is fun, the combat both shooting and space combat is good. If it was at a playable frame rate it would be far better than any space game around.

Literally all they need to do is fix the shitty networking and they've got a great base to expand on.
>>
>>386980769

You guys can call this game a scam that's never coming out all you want. That doesn't change the fact that nobody knows what's actually going to happen with the release of the potential game. You guys don't know, and I don't know.

Just a couple of weeks ago a bunch of people were claiming Grimoire was a scam and is never releasing. No Man's Sky although super fucking late got a base framework for a multiplayer mode that may be expanded on later. Some Kickstarter/IndieGoGo titles succeed and others do not. How can everyone be so certain that this is 100% a scam?

Funny names for standard collision prediction heuristics. That's really, really old tech.

Easily. They fixed a shitton of things
Well, they've been fixing shit for a year now, but 1.3 is the update where everybody found out about it not being shit anymore.
>>
>>387004073
sure, it's an old idea, but i think (from the tone of the post; i'm not intimately familiar with either) that they probably added some cute math tricks on top to refine the prediction. maybe i'm wrong! if you know for sure, i'd love to know.

>>387004089
more realistically, yes, no one knows, but i think that at best CIG and SC are in a worrisome position. i think that for all but the most blind, there is a lot hinting that it's not going to be what CIG suggested it would be, much less what the backers hope it will be.

>>387004205
1.2 sounded intriguing, but hearing about what 1.3 adds + the sale price really brought it back into consideration. thanks for the input, anon.

I'm going to put two grand more into Star Citizen just to spite all you assholes. That'll show you what's up faggots.
