3DS Screen Lottery

My N3DS is top IPS and TN Bottom.

I wish I could find a bottom IPS to install

What size is it? Slim or XL? The goldilocks for me would be a Slim like that. I wouldn't mind an IPS lower screen, but all the gameplay takes place on the top screen, and for apps like Colors3D, I'd prefer to see the whole black scale. The conserved battery life of a TN would also be a plus to me.

Feels like the top panel is TN while the bottom is IPS, I've never noticed it before but I never looked out for it

Viewing angle, generally speaking if you struggle to see your screen after a certain angle it's most likely tn, also colour range

If you can see squares 4 - 8, it's a TN. If you can't, it's IPS. IPS has stronger color so you can't see those 4 tones of black (black is the aggregation of all color, etc. I imagine). Another way is by tilting the system. If the color washes out it's TN.

Because the best possible outcome is you continue playing games like you always have with no difference. The worst is you feel bad about your 3DS.

If you can't tell and you don't know what the differences are, don't ask, don't find out, just keep playing like you normally would.

I think it only matters for some games. Like for Majora's Mask I couldn't really tell that much difference. But for Hyrule Warriors, it always felt like there was a pervasive layer of fog in my screen. Then again, I don't have a N3DS with IPS to test this on.

Had a dual IPS 3DS XL, "upgraded" to a N3DS XL with dual TN, returned it for another dual TN, sold that one and bought a top IPS on ebay. Satisfied with it until I play DS Castlevania games that mainly use the bottom screen. I wish I lived in the timeline where Nintendo made a DS/3DS player for the Wii/Wii U or a TV out for a future model.

Not all games, but it matters. Games with huge draw distances. You'd want to know if there's a horde of Lizalfos or a horde of Bokoblins afar rather than when they sneak up on you from behind. If you're playing a sprite based game with pure blacks like Metroid, you'd like to know it's not fog in the background you're supposed to be seeing. Etc.

Why is Nintendo such a joke?
If ANY other company gave 50% of users a shitty product without any indication or acknowledging it, people would throw a fucking fit. HOW is this okay?
