Super Paper Mario

New Super Mario Bros Wii and U felt uninspired, while Luigi U only had the saving grace of being a bit more difficult. 3D World was boringly easy with only Champion's Road providing any difficulty. Sunshine also put too much focus on gimmicks in both Fludd and level design, so it lacked a lot of the flow needed for it to be enjoyable.

New Super Mario 2 was a pretty fun game

Arguably the Magnum Opus of the NSMB series

Mainly because it's design and goal makes you do different things despite still being be same setting

All Wii did was expand multiplayer, bring back Koopalings and make a final Bowser encounter actually threatening but it's still the same simple game

U is easily the best of the New games. The New ones happen to be the most by the numbers mario games ever made though. Even the old ones feel fresher than them.

The NSMB games, though I enjoyed multiplayer speedruns with my little bro on the Wii U, didn't really need the rest of them. 3D World had some issues, I enjoyed playing Galaxy a lot more, and I would have preferred a 3D World that had Land's single-player focus.

We all know there are some bad Mario games, especially some specific Mario Party and Mario RPG games, but OP was talking specifically about platformers.

6 Golden Coins did a good job with the limited hardware, had some fun designs, I'd rather play Super Mario Land, but it isn't really bad.

Honestly none of them are completely bad, but a decent number are mediocre. The Mario Land games were limited by hardware as I mentioned, the NSMB games felt like they got pumped out too fast much even if they did release one that was solid (New Super Mario Bros. U).
