Nintendo still haven't topped this game in the series.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

It's disgraceful how every game since then has been less detailed and seems like they put less work into it. I did enjoy City Folk however.

Haven't played this yet, might emulate it later. How does it compare to the other games in the series?

CF is literally the exact same game. Everyone was fucking disappointed with CF.
>>

I respect your opinion, but it doesn't make sense. Grass decay and Wiimote controls killed CF for me.

Wild World is too hard to make money.

What's so different about the newer entries?

I've only played New Leaf.

New Leaf would've overtaken it if I could fucking zone for residences instead of having assholes move in on top of my rose bushes.

I haven't played the GC game in over a decade though, so maybe I'm forgetting something.

I guess it's personal preference. I started the game around 2009. I just have really good memories with it. It was the only Wii game I had for awhile. I only ever got to play it late at night after returning from school/work. I knew the ins and outs of the game like how to make villagers move away at will and how to avoid the villagers you like from moving. My disc drive on the Wii died on me 3 years ago and I've felt empty since then.

Its not that city folk is bad, it's just an "HD" version of wild world.

Maybe give the ds game a shot?
>>
>>386958963
I tried too. I thought the dialogue was different between both version, maybe I'm wrong on that, but Wild World for me plays a bit too slow and you can't have as many villagers as you can in City Folk.

I expect Nintendo to allow a one-time purchase so you don't have to do microtransactions constantly like in magikarp jump or their other shit phone games.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like. Nintendo has said they're going to mobile to attract a larger base of their target audience, women and children.

There's certainly something about the first one, and it's not just nostalgia. The Japanese Animal Forest and N64 and the Japanese GCN version have the same feeling. Maybe it's the lack of other locations. It's nestled cozily between two mountains and there's nothing beyond the train station.

New Leaf definitely has more content, but it ends up feeling like a chore simulator after a while. Grass decay is a huge part of that, I feel. The "rolling log" style camera feels less personal somehow too.

More stuff to do is great, as long as it doesn't feel compulsory. My last 4 weeks of playing New Leaf consisted of turning on the 3DS, watering all my plants, talking to my favorite villager, then saving & exiting.

Wild World is goat for me because of my age at the time of playing. Think I was just a bit too young for the gcn one to catch. Am 22 btw. So was around 10-14 playing Wild World... Man it was the best. Get up real early before school and relax in my village, manage inventory and fish since Nooks was not open yet

adding to this, city folk was trash (ww hd) and new leaf was ALMOST there in terms of additional content and stuff but like >>386959746 said, kind of felt like a chore at some point. Maybe just growing out of the series

Best music, 60fps, acre system and 12 gyroids on at the same time. That's about it, but it's enough to make it tied for the best entry with New Leaf.
>>
>>386958798
relax, it's not going to
they specifically said the mobile game will be linked in some way with a 'traditional console game'.
>>
I disagree with GameCube being the best. The amount of things you can do in New Leaf compare to the GCN game overshadows the nuances the dialogue lost. And it's still not as bad as City Folks.
>>
I hate how they toned down how mean villagers can be from the original game
>>
>>386960795

That's the thing I'm talking about. It's not just the content, it's hard to pinpoint. I loved the idea of a coffee shop and a cozy wooden police hut. I had fun playing New Leaf, but it didn't feel as nice as the GCN.

Slightly unrelated, but I hated how easy it was to get furniture. Everyone would visit each others houses or the street pass houses and just order everything they liked. Shaking every tree in GCN daily for those sweet 2 random furniture pieces was exciting. Pestering your neighbors for chores. Nook running his shop himself. I don't want Nook in a detached shopping district, I want it in my town.

It just sucks charm from it for me. Everything in the first was small and simple. It was simple living. Instead of having a hair salon, have that be a special guest that could show up weekly. Keep the town small, and increase the number of guests and daily events. Travelling shoe & sock salesman, maybe with a tiny little stand set up.

New Leaf added a lot of great stuff, but it also added too much that took away from the simple charm.

Everyone's talking about atmosphere and buildings and chores and grass decay and everything, but you're all missing what REALLY makes the original Animal Crossing shine.

Writing.

Animals weren't afraid to really live up to their personalities to the fullest extent--animals could be flowery and friendly but also be rude and hostile. More importantly, characters could be clever and snarky, with actual humor that blows away the shit tier humor of the next 3 games that boils down to "Hi PLAYER, I had a INSERT FOOD HERE for my pre workout, haha!"

Animal Crossing used to have bite to it, but those fangs have been grinded down to dust.

I can see what you mean about the shoes, but in New Leaf the haircuts were a chore. You needed to cycle through 95% of the haircuits of your gender to unlock all the other styles. I'd rather have them all available through a guest. How often do you change your hairstyle anyway? Once I had the one I wanted, I never changed it. It made that entire building irrelevant.

I'd like for there to be a guest in the village for every day of the week, but not a set schedule, more than just 7. There just needs to be something happening each day.

From purely a gameplay standpoint, there is literally nothing to gain from having the stores spread through the village as opposed to just having all of them in a neat area.

It eliminates to need to tediously travel to and from stores just to get a few simple chores done, and it also frees up space to actually customize your village with projects and decorations.

The biggest problem of the series is the dialogues
Every installment, they make it more simple and boring. I remember that N64 version had a lot of cool dialogues and it was actually fun to talk with the villagers I remember when a villager gave me a GameBoy Color and I thought I could actually play a game just like the Famicom ones so I kept the item for a while until I realized it was nothing
>>
>>386957216
I was just playing Splatoon 2 today and 10 mins in, I just wanted to play something comfy and i'm reminded that they haven't even announced a fucking AC game for a console that would be perfect for it.

And I don't want more of New Leaf. I want something more like the original game; WW took a lot away and replaced it with boring shit like 'Yay Day', and we lost Wisp's midnight activity, along with several other random NPCs. I want to wash Grace's fucking car again. New Leaf definitely did a better job, but it's still missing something i'm afraid we'll nevee get back.

Like that weird animal/jungle whoop and hollering you heard in the original's little victory jingles. Totally different aesthetic.

AC will get a spin off franchise on mobile (if there isn't already one that I'm not aware of) that will be barebones in all functionality. Maybe it will be like Mii Tomo. It will be used to advertise the upcoming animal crossing switch game just like they did with Pokemon Go. Which might make it the best selling AC.
>>
I loved New Leaf but after 600 hours it got a tad boring. Easily on the same level as the original. The only reason it is not better is that there isn't chores (even though I barely did them) and more interactive events like the witching hour ghost hunts and more holidays. Gamecube Halloween,Thanksgiving, and Christmas were GOAT.

Not happening for two possible reasons. They want to sell them, and potential licensing issues. 99% certain it's nothing but the former. The gaming industry in 2017 is not like it was in 2001/2. Companies aren't very interested in doing stuff like that any more.

I wouldn't mind visiting a city. But animal crossing as a series is based upon that rural village life. Fishing, chopping down trees, having relationships with a small community. Something that can't really be done with a city setting without sacrificing in areas.

>>386963740
Well, SEGA still do this so why not Nintendo? obviously because they want money from nostalgiafags
In Yakuza 5 you can play a Taiko Drum arcade game and Virtua Figther 2 and in Yakuza 0 you can play arcade games like Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Outrun and Hang out

Also in the upcoming Yakuza 6 you can play Virtua Figther 5 FS (a fucking PS3 game)

the museum system in the original sucks. Blathers is quite literally useless, you have to ait a day after starting just to get an address to send fossils to the society, and Im pretty sure it only registers 1 fossil a day, meaning the others you sent are sent into a void. Because of this, you have to hold onto fossils in your small inventory and have even less space while more dig spots pop up over town that you shouldnt dig out yet

Maybe you didn't fill up the mail outgoing box? They send them out in batches, so you can fill up the outgoing section, leave the post office, and see the mailbird flying away with the shit you sent. Then you can go back in and put more letters in the outgoing section. Otherwise if you don't fill it up you have to wait for them to send them out at some specific time

>Still no real friendship system where you can be best friends, rivals, or even just a stranger to other villagers
>Still no real ability to just ask villagers if they want to hang out, do activities together (fish, catch bugs, etc), or go to certain locations like the beach or your house
>Still no way to really get your village to look/be the way you want it, with random people moving in right on top of your flower bed and shit
>Dialogue has continued to go down, with many villagers still repeating basic tutorial messages after a year of talking to them
>Still a slow grind where you either literally spend months trying to save up for slight upgrades or you find some broken way to make money that turns into a slog, liking catching tons of golden beetles at the island
>Still very little weather variation, with storms being the craziest type of weather that can occur

I absolutely love AC, but I swear it feels like it's just been a slow decrease in depth and comfy elements (sacrificed for more convenience) as the games go on. The biggest innovations they've introduced from the GC entry was a rolling log world type (which has mixed opinions) and the ability to slightly control your town's functions. I know that it's difficult to suggest changing the games up in a large way because simplicity is an actual selling point for the atmosphere. But goddamn, they really need to do something new or just add in something interesting. AC games always fall into the same pattern of being super fun and interesting for like 20 hours, then dropping off hard because there's little to look forward to/do outside of daily check-in.
>>
>>386966805
The reason they used the log was limitations of the DS/3DS right? Switch they should easily be able to use a grid, and make the map/playable area even larger.

If anything, dialogues are a bit more fun than CF but that doesn't make it any better. Dialogues in NL are still fucking terrible

Even worse now the penalization when you talk too much to a villager is waay more faster than WW or CF (like 7 times and the villager get annoyed). This is a poor attempt to deflect the fact that dialogues has been streamlined

Honestly at this point I don't have any hopes they could improve the dialogues again, they will keep adding gimmicks and make the game more simple and accesible for kids (like they did with Ressetti)

It's the completely uncompulsory nature of the original AC. The game doesn't expect you to do anything, and you're free to fuck around and do whatever. WW, City Folk, and New Leaf all stonewall you into doing daily chores and once those are done the game completely blocks you from being able to progress in anything else.

There should be absolutely no loading screens in the Switch version. Make the city part seamlessly integrated as part of the (larger) village

And make the inventory bigger for god's sake. Micromanaging that isn't fun. Also a separate inventory for tools that doesn't take up your regular inventory. Also more space for letters and mail

>They can bunk at your place too, if you have a couch or spare bed, and bring gifts as a result
>Wardrobes can hold all of your clothes, so no need to manage a limited inventory just for fashion

They could make a backpack we can equip that holds all of our tools.
>Equip Backpack as a tool
>Button to drop it and open it as a container, even outside
>Set up hotkeys for all the tools, close inventory to pick up the backpack

It'd be so very handy. Doubtful that something like this, or anything remotely convenient, will happen though.

Wishlist of things that will never happen:

>"Toolbelt" feature that gives me a separate inventory slots for tools so I don't have to waste inventory room on tools anymore.

>Have an option to make Villagers stop telling you basic tutorial stuff after the first month.

>"Best Friend" feature that lets you select one villager who will never move out. Have to get their picture first though.

>Help Villagers expand their house by giving them bells. This will be another way to build friendship with them and you won't feel like as much of a jerk for living in a mansion while everyone else is stuck with their one room house.

>Ask Villagers to do favors for you in the same way they ask favors from you. Such as Bugs/Fish/Furniture. But you can't ask them to catch a fish/bug that you haven't already caught and when asking for furniture you can only make a vague request like "something red". Also they can decline the task and the more rare the item you ask for is the more likely it is that they will turn you down.

>Have voided villagers show up wandering around town on rare occasions and if another player is visiting your town while a voided villager is around they can ask them to move to their town.

>Actual path making system so we don't have to use patterns anymore.

>Increase number of possible neighbors to 15 and expand the map to accommodate.

>Have villagers actually catching fish and bugs on their own instead of just walking around with tools and if you see them catch something you want you can offer to buy it off of them for a little more than what you can sell it for.

>Being able to choose what kind of town it is. Desert, mountain, tropics etc. each with their own selection of bugs and fish. So if you want to complete the museum you better make some friends. Also bug/fish exclusive to a region sell better in other regions. (Add a way to like trade fish and bugs with NPCs just to be fair to losers with no friends)

The inevitable Switch version of AC really needs to fix the postgame problem. There's just such a lack of things to do in New Leaf after you fully upgrade your house catch all the fish/bugs, and fill your town up with stuff. The bright side with the original game is all of the NES games you could play, the other games haven't been able to fill that gap yet.
