How could you possibly know the strategy to beat them without dying at least once. So few other enemies in the game induce frenzy that the fact you knew sedatives were the solution to winter lanterns suggests you looked things up or died to them at least once.

but who knows, maybe you're 10 days-kun.

The first encounter puts them so far away that you have a shitton of time to realize something is inducing you frenzy, which, at that point, shouldn't kill you in 1 hit

>>
>>386957678
It's nightmare frontier, and it usually happens way earlier than the bridge encounter

For the bridge one, I just ran away from all those bitches; take the frenzy hit and then just drop down to the hole. The last one is easily avoidable since you get to go across those wooden planks while hiding from it

The only unfair one is the motherfucker guarding the item that transforms you into a message. It's poison + frenzy so you need to be fast
>>
The Eye ball monster was fine. They match the 'madness' idea well and strike fear in you.

By the time you fight these things you should have mastered parrying, and you could feasibly one shot them and live if you do it. You should have also come across frenzy gear to help with these fights. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I like it when they throw challenges like this down, don't hand hold you, yet provide you with the tools to overcome it throughout the game.

The Shark monsters were kind of ridiculous, but they expected players to know every kind of trick (including the bone dagger). These guys were a nice change of pace from the endless amounts of small enemies you could just stagger endlessly.
>>
Gitgud
>>
>>386956687
It's called risk-reward.
Killing them with R1 spam and sedative chugging is the low risk, low reward strategy.
Killing them with a parry is the high risk, high reward strategy.

>b-b-but the only way to learn the parry timing is to risk dying
True of other Souls games, but not BB, because you can parry from a distance. Bait out the grab attack, back off to a safe distance, then try parrying it. Either you land the parry and kill it, or you miss and have to chug a sedative, but at least you don't die.
Parrying from a safe distance is a strategy you should pick up way earlier in the game when fighting brick trolls and executioners.
>>
These guys are why I dropped BB after beating Micolash (I went back and did Orphan).
>>
>>386956343
That's the single worst aspect of frenzy and the winter lantern's design itself. The status effect literally uses a has a lingering hitbox.

Only on my second playthrough (which I did gunless) did I notice frenzy wears off like 3x faster if you spam roll. What an awful mechanic. You can literally do nothing offensively while it's active on top of the obvious thing being that it's a mostly unavoidable loss of 80% of your hp.
>>
>>386958108
The sharks are kind of bullshit IMO, they have enormous hitboxes and can deal very high damage, thankfull the bullshit ones are the ones guarding the Rakuyo, the other ones aren't so bad

> I like it when they throw challenges like this down, don't hand hold you, yet provide you with the tools to overcome it throughout the game.

A great example of this is BSB, it's kind of a tough fight but if you use the tools they give you throughout the level the fight becomes a walk in the park.
>>
>>386959501
There are no winter lanterns on the way to Wet Nurse. There are no winter lanterns on the critical path anywhere in the game, they only appear in optional areas.

>>386965902
If you have high insight, it can fill up so fast that all you can do to keep it from getting full and damaging you is to drink sedative one after another. You have to go through the entire animation before it reduces it too, which is bullshit. It should have provided temporary immunity or at least high resistance to frenzy for ~20 seconds after using it.
>>
>>386966420
You don't necessarily need to outright kill them with throwing items, just enough for you to be able to finish them off with one or two melee attacks, waiting and consuming sedatives inbetween. Most of the time you'd just want to avoid them entirely anyway, even if I understand the autistic need of having to kill every single enemy in the game at least once.

You don't parry the frenzy. You do a visceral attack after parrying its grab, during the visceral animation you are immune to all damage and the frenzy damages you mostly during the animatoion so you receive no damage.
>>
>>386974959
None of those guys but don't even use your blood vials until you have a good understanding of her moveset. Know what a 2 hit combo and 3 hit combo are and which way to dodge. Get the timing down on when to dodge the blood or firey attacks.

There might be some easy cheese method, but i just died to her loads of times while actively concentrating on what attacks she's doing and learning from it.

Once you get a good idea and make good progress without blood vials, then feel free to use them but don't rely on them.

I used the blade of mercy in it's dual wield form to attack constantly while consuming low stamina and she'll get stunlocked except for some slow attacks (for example, there is one where she swings both swords at you). For that ones learn the timing and dodge behind her (works for almost every attack) to keep pressing.
During second phase attacks have more range but the technique is the same. However, there will be some ranged attacks where she prepares the blow for a while. These ones can deal big damage, but if iirc she moves her arm a bit just when she's about to land them, so you can use that to know when to dodge.
Third phase is the same as the second but some attacks can harm you a bit if you dodge behind her. It's still better to do it that way though

Pretty sure you wont oneshot the FRC ones, definitely not those with the red aura.
>stunlockable with big weapons on str build
>staggerabble with executioners gloves on arc build
That's not entirely true. I'm fairly convinced that the double scythe version has considerably less stagger potential and will refuse to flinch if you try to rely on that too much by doing something like two R2s in a row. Single sickle and corpse-wielding variants are fairly docile and are not really that noteworthy, its the dualwielding variant people mostly complain about.
>>
>>386975891
So much this. "Fair and balanced" combat that punishes you for mistakes that are out of your control, even if you are super careful all the time. The problem with those games is that they don't know if they want to be an action game or an rpg. This can lead to farming souls for levelling because the games become enjoyable the most only when you are overlevelled enough to go past all the bullshit.
>>
>>386976454
Yeah they're really nothing you can't handle by that point, its just that you get rushed from nowhere or forced to go against them in not the best of areas. But out in the open it's a good fun enemy.

I'm not sure bur maybe they'll get oneshot with one visceral dmg rune.
You are correct that the dual scythe one has a lot of hyperarmor, but only on heavily telegraphed attacks. You'll most likely be able to dodge away on those moves, I think heavy weapons don't need to do R2s to stagger them. I'm pretty sure that Wheel, Kirk, Amy arm R1s are good enough.
Also some of your compaints are about FRC tier enemies and I think one should easily kill them 1 on 1 if he's on FRC level, after fighting plenty of them.

That's kind of a bullshit webm that just shows lucky AI RNG, that boss has a couple of attacks that he can use to get you out of the front. The lava barf, the lunge, the explosion, and IIRC he has a couple of swipes that take him forward too. It's especially bad because it's a cursed dungeon so some of his stuff (the lunge) can one shot.
>>
>>386979345
You only encounter them in NIGHTMARE frontier, NIGHTMARE of mensis and hunter's NIGHTMARE. Of course a warped figure of Doll - a creature that always cared for hunters - is going to be one of the worst nightmares a hunter could imagine.

People are whining too much. I basically just read "well I can't see them!" and "I probably didn't even have sedatives" when it's obvious that you did

This is ignoring the larger point that frenzy is a poorly designed mechanic. WL are easy once you get the hang of cheesing the grab and partying it, then visceral just as frenzy is about to pop, but that doesn't mean it's well designed. BB is my favorite game, but it still has some flaws.

This is why Bloodborne has my favorite combat in the series. It's super easy to bait the attacks you want and even if you didn't, 90% of the enemies have super consistent timing for attacks and it's easy to gage when to dodge. It's like if every enemy in Dark Souls 3 was designed like Gundyr.

Watchdog is a pretty lackluster boss but what you see in the webm is the consistent speed he attacks at. He almost never deviates from this speed.

Of course the game remains equally bullshit in terms of enemy damage tables and hitboxes, but still. The combat was made with serious discipline. My current playthrough of the game has made me fall in love with it all over again.

>Let rip with the axe on a boss or mini-boss that doesn't have an extra little hit gimmick
Literally the most fun way to kill something.

that guy was pretty bad but he was doable I guess, died a few times to him

I just really dislike the brain sucking faggots

I was like these guys don't do shit, until I realized I lost all my redpill points

I don't get it. I only died to the first lantern I found and that's only because I was a scrub and let it grab me, I would have survived the frenzy tick otherwise, do dipshits really run around with sub 80% hp when vials are easy as fuck to get?

The only thing that sucks is if you get to him in the second phase and one shots your ass with augur or starts up ACB before you recover from the fall.
>>
>>386986651
All your insight? How many times did you let them grab you? And aren't there only 5 per game (not counting chalice)? I find it difficult to believe you let one of the slowest, rarest enemies grab you with the most telegraphed attack in the game dozens of times

Not him but I accidently two of them at once at the orphanage and kept catching those immobilization beams to the face. I lost at least 5-10 in the whole encounter

whats your build? It becomes pretty trivial to not take any damage in phase 1 if you stay at a distance you can bait either the placenta throw which is easy to dodge or the jump attack, don't dodge, walk under it and charge for a backstab visceral. With the claw mark runes and beast blood pellet and maybe bolt paper you can do a heap of damage. Just be patient and never go for more than 1 attack if you dodge any other combos. Ideally fish for a visceral to enter phase 2 to do a good chunk of his phase 2 life. Run the fuck away when he tries the lightning attack, you can go very far out over the water so use that to your advantage. I don't really have any advice for phase 2 tho, I just got good rng and a lucky visceral. Phase 2 orphan is probably the most difficult boss in the series.

Unloading a full stamina bar with Pizza Cutter before using this either staggers or parries most NPC hunters, allowing you to regain your stamina and L2 all over again. Feels good.

Honestly I didn't understand the appeal of a bloodborne 2 and thought the game was already a singular standalone experience, until I started farming chalice dungeons...

It's literally all random shit and enemy concepts that needed to be held off until another game. In fact I'd really like chalice dungeons to return with different dungeon sandboxes instead of the same boring looking corridors.
>>
>>386990380
He has lots of rolly polly attacks and sweeps too
One of the tougher chalice enemies, ranks slightly above the madmen. I think you only encounter one in the required chalices
>>
>>386990680
I'm with you on the whole "Standalone experience" thing, I just really like the gameplay. I remember hearing rumors before E3 that BB2 was going to be announced and that it would have an Aztec aesthetic to it and I could not have been more disappointed when it didn't happen.
>>
>>386989904

The fat dungeon guys are some of the easiest enemies to parry in the whole game are you serious?

Am I retarded for finding Laurence a fair bit harder than Kos? Kos I could learn patterns on and predict/dodge/parry after a handful of deaths, but fucking Laurence took me easily twice as many tries.

He seemed to have a stupid wide hitbox to his attacks, his patterns seemed more random, and his fucking second form makes actually getting in to hit him a crapshoot.

Yeah it works, sometimes I use it on different playthroughs if I'm not in the mood to deal with Hemwick's shit.

Nah, I have the exact same issue every playthrough I do. I can usually get Orphan on my first try at this point, but Laurence will still take me a handful of tries.
My biggest issue with him is that he attacks in long combos, has a lot of reach, and high tracking.
His third phase, when he's just a crawling torso, is easier once you realize how to handle it. Bait out his crawl slam and just keep strafing to his side, hitting him occasionally. Done properly, the lava should fade fast enough to just repeat until he's dead.
