shame fromsoft did it in a shitty way and basically made you buy the game all over again. i bought the original and was gonna wait for some DLC bundle or to hoover them up in a sale, but then they only released SotFS and i was like eh, fuck that im not buying the base game again just for dx11, but then eventually it went in a sale and cost less than buying the 3 DLCs individually so i snapped it up.

I played dark souls 2 sotfs as my first souls game. i liked ds1's world and enemy placement better (until demon city where it got lazy) but i much preferred ds2's controls. dark souls 1 felt a lot more stiff and clunky, i actually prefer my games to be a little floatier, hence me also enjoying dark souls 3 and bloodborne

Favorite is Dark Souls 2 desu. I've been replaying it doing a Crossbow only run, dual wielding Light Crossbow's and it's pretty fun. I've actually noticed the problem with the hitboxes being static since it's been shit posted so much and I honestly don't know how I never noticed this. Fixed it by levelling Adaptability a bit, but fucking shit regardless.

because caster gets completely shat on in 1v1? They gave you some close range spells in DS3 but they are so utter shit you are better off just praying to god the other guy will lag just enough so your CSS will actually connect through his roll

the difference is you listened before the game even released. I also did listen but canceled my preorder just day before release. I was pretty fucking mad about the downgrade, but eventually I came to terms with it and found out SOTFS with DLCs is very enjoyable and just as difficult as 1 (I know its not supposed to be its selling point but oh well). I enjoyed 3 much less than 2.

It's a FAR CRY from what it should've been and areas like Shaded Woods and Drangleic Castle/King's Passage still are basically unfinished and unpolished.

To be fair bosses that are not gimmicky are one of the best in the series and level design is WAY better than in DS2 and I do like quest system which adds depth to the game.

It's a shame though, there's a lot of potential with level design, tools like the chameleon spell and other gimmicks. I've invaded a few times but I feel like I'm the one playing the game wrong, even got some butthurt messages. I wouldn't mind at all getting killed in a creative manner, even in an "unfair" way.

on the one hand the gimmicky bosses aren't very good but on the other, dark souls 3's gameplay is so shallow that it can't really accommodate interesting "traditional bossfights", almost all of the straight up fights in this game are tackled with identical tactics and the only difference between them from a gameplay perspective is roll timings

i know someone is going to say "but that's true in all the games" so here's some examples of "straight up fight" bosses from previous games where there's more going on than roll-attack-roll:

>quelaag uses pools of lava and a very telegraphed, high damaging aoe attack to force you to always be wary of your positioning
>ornstein and smough will often overlap their attacks if you try to fight them straight up so you have to pull them apart using the pillars
>tauros demon has an incredibly narrow arena and you can use the environment against him
>4kings forces you to be hyper aggressive because of the timer that spawns additional kinds (this one is marginal since some people consider 4kings to be a gimmick boss)

these fights feel different from eachother and require/afford tactics to win, there's no equivalence of this sort of variety in dark souls 3, all the straight up fights in that game attempt to emulate what made the (bafflingly) popular artorias fight appealing and the game ends up feeling very style over substance as a result

Not every spell has to be some kind of projectile that deals 9999 damage, Force only requires 12 FTH, you can get it early on all Souls games, and you can destroy gank squads if you know how to use it

Every time I try playing a mage I end up using magic weapon and swinging R1 because I don't feel comfortable using ranged spells in a game that is mostly fought in melee
Those spells that turn your catalyst into a pseudo-sword feel awfully inefficient to me compared to just using a weapon

It's more a problem with people relying on iframes than a problem with the game itself.
It's the opposite of what the Monster Hunter games did where rolling had a very limited amount of iframes so most of the time you used it to get out of the way instead of just rolling into an attack while being invincible. The newer games do allow you to get much higher iframes with skills but without that you don't just blindly roll through attacks like is often the best option in dark souls.
