While the forces tie in was a really stupid decision in the context of mania it's really only a small scene and a sound effect. It was a massive mistake and it's likely not the fault of the taxman and his team. Don't pass over this game because of it. It doesn't invalidate the work they did on the gameplay or level design. The taxman won't go anywhere if this game does well and I believe it will. And if he stays it means another one of these.

Sonic 1 isn't bad, it's just not got things like Sonic's Spindash. It's best to get the game on mobile if you have it because of the Taxman ports being superior with more features (Taxman is the guy working on Sonic Mania now).

It was a nice spin on the formula and if you didn't like it, you had three other characters to play as because good Sonic games don't force you to play as other characters.
