2/Brotherhood are less faithful to the core principles and story/gameplay, but is a superior game with more polished everything
4 is top-tier 'reboot' that shits on everything at the core of the series, while being a truly 9/10 amazing game. Does not belong in the series.

Anything else besides those 4 games is a fuckup that is outshined in all areas by one of the other games in the series and has no reason to exist. The only slight deviation from this is 3, which has superior Sailing/Ship Combat compared to 4.

tbqh i don't know why everyone fawns over black flag. the ship is fun to sail to a certain extent, but the combat is trash, the grinding is awful, the missions are lazy, the story is boring, and the performance is terrible.

There's no 'best' AC game, each entry has its strengths and weaknesses. They do some things right and a lot of other things wrong to a point where sometimes you'll be playing one game, reach a point and you'll wish it had a feature from a different entry. It's a damned fucking shame too.
