Having a backlog means you have so many Good games to choose from that you can't play them all.

Now imagine the backlog potential for children and future children; if you want to play "the classics", it's going to be literally impossible to get through everything.

I booted up Morrowind for the first time about a year ago and foolishly thought that I could beat the main quests, a guild questline, a house questline, and all side quests within a few weeks with no prior experience. It was a fucking nightmare and I felt miserable because I was forcing myself to play instead of relaxing and exploring.

I feel like it's a better idea to only devote only one single-player game per month so I don't get overwhelmed by "working" through a backlog week after week. If I still enjoy the game at the end of the month, I'll squeeze in a few hours if I want the following month to finish it. Otherwise, I just move on to the next one on my list. The obvious downside is that I can only really play 12 long single-player games per year, but that's probably not really a "downside." It only feels weird because my backlog is so huge (literally over a hundred pre-2005 games that I want to beat someday).
