Lavos is not sentient enough to be evil by human measure. Being evil requires some form of sentience to have malicious intent, and Lavos was just animalistic. It's no more evil than a bear attacking you in the woods. Zeal was the evil one.
The whole scene was like throwing a cheesy speech about how some bear is evil and how they will take a stand against it for the good of the world. Bears have no concept of good or evil.
Evil is just a superficial concept and nature and requires sentience to recognize or display.

Whoops, that lingering nature was meant to lead to a complete thought of its own. I meant to say that nature does not take into consideration superficialities. Superficialities require some form of sentience to recognize or display, and that's generally attributed to humanity. I don't recall bears writing bibles or creating religions, for example.

The fact of the matter is that the planets atmosphere is just a social construct created by people. Lavos has just as much right as anyone already on Earth to come here, and to be honest? If Lavos wants to destroy the world? It has just as much right to pursue its own happiness as you do.
Check your privledge and remember that Lavos has journeyed really far to reach Earth while all you had to do was be born there. Whoop-de-fuckin-do, good job, you!
