Is it possible for a video game to have too much content?

Yes.

LEGO City Undercover comes to mind. It's a little overwhelming.

Yes. Long JRPGs and Paradox grand strategy games come to mind. I can't be arsed with either
Witcher 3. I still haven't finished the game, and I bought it day one with a seasonpass. I kind of got bored of the game after the Wild hunt battle at Kaer.

Same. Didn't help that most content was just copy paste stuff or follow the red blur.

Holy shit, Yes! Try to play Project Overkill on PS1 without loosing your patience while the game throws an obscene amount of levels at you. They even have the audacity to show you a worldmap with all the missions and when you finally made it to the last one and beat the boss you just fly of to another plant (fucking twice).

No, but games with bad direction and allot of content can be overwhelming. The player just has to feel allmost lost, but have a general feel of direction/purpose.
All those Final Fantasy games boasting 100 hours across 7 cds turned me right off back in the day. I just didn't want to commit to all that.
More recently FFXIV had far too much content I didn't want to trudge through to get to the content I did want to play so I dropped that too.

Most of the data on those CDs is prerendered backgrounds and FMVs. Mainline FF games rarely exceed 40 hours for the main story.
Poor fella, depth perception like his must be a bitch.
>>386927803
Not really, you don't have to do all of it.

Yes, Yakuza 5 is proof of this.
