Im thinking of getting silent hill 2 for the ps3, i heard its bad but always wanted to try the games. I cant run a ps2 emulator on my pc so i dont know what i should do. Do i get it on the ps3 or pc? It seems hard to get it to work on pc, and if i do get it on pc where do i get it? Are there come essential mods that make it sound better and add the fog?

A silent hill fag will show up shortly with links to 2 and 3 on PC

Sadly I don't have the copy pasta that goes along with it

Whatever you do don't play the PS3 remasters, they're absolute garbage.

On a side note, if you run into problems with the game not recognizing gamepad inputs (mainly the triggers and dpad) use Xpadder 5.7 (it's on thepiratebay) and run it in Win7 compatibility mode, map the dpad to keyboard directional keys and each trigger to a button.

Have fun

Do NOT play the PS3 versions! They are fucking awful, and literally broken too.
And do play them in RELEASE ORDER.

Here's the full SH PC Guide (>>386918896) + the DL links to SH1-4:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
If SH3 runs like shit even on a strong PC, check and lower the Rendering Resolution setting.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Also give the new PGXP emulator a shot for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.

>General protips:
-PLAY IN RELEASE ORDER, starting with SH1!
-Never play below Normal difficulty.
-Replaying each game multiple times is recommended.
-Don't try to kill everything, especially outdoors.
-Turn OFF flashlight. It helps.

>it seems hard to get it to work on pc,
you literally just install them and unpack the new fan-patches on top. Simple as pie.

The download links have been re-posted several times a day, every day, for months now. Even ITT.

Don't trust the shitty "comparison video" on YT. The PC ports literally look better than the PS2 originals. With a good audio devices or headphones, the soundscape of these games are just helluva disturbing.

>>386919568
>-PLAY IN RELEASE ORDER, starting with SH1!
Seconding this. SH1 is the important cornerstone of the whole saga, an essential chapter considering the later games' plot, and still one of the best survival horror games ever made. Also notably spookier than SH2, which many agree to be the tamest of the bunch.

No. Just a bit more extreme example of possibilities.

I've always found the vanilla fog to be good enough tho'. The fix obviously improves it.

>i heard its bad but always wanted to try the games
You don't just "try" Silent Hill games, mate.

You devote some time for them, make sure you're not being bothered by anyone or anything, and then dive into these beautiful horror stories they are with all your might and soul. And like any proper story- and characters-driven series, you want to start with the very first chapter. The original Silent Hill game. If you cannot handle that for what ever reason... then sorry, this series is not for you, as the first sequels don't really change at all.

Like said many times, the legendarily awful "HD" "Collection" versions of SH2 and 3 are NOT the way you want to play these timeless classics. This is not just some fanboy nitpicking on one or two changed things, no sir. The SH "HD" set is widely considered as THE most embarrassing shit ever to be released with terms like "remaster" on the cover.
They incompetent no-name devs who did these ports managed to make the games look and sound uglier, run way worse, have brand new bugs and goddamn crashing, and even alter the script there and here. All without consulting the original developers, artists or actors at any point.

Pic very related, and this is only scratching the surface.
Try to imagine the audio being as bad as the visual changes / glitches. You should get the idea.

It's hard to make it work pretty. Just download the version /v/ always recommends, and follow the guide whenever you decide you want it pretty.

No it's not.
You can even skip the fancy guide and just download the sh2proxy -fix instead. Literally just gotta unpack it to the game's install directory, let it replace the .exe, and you're done!
>>
>>386920636
"it's hard" in comparison to just installing the game

If you can install a PC game via .ISOs, which you by the way gotta first download via torrents and shit, then you should not have a problem unpacking a goddamn .zip file to the game's main folder.

Relax, dude. I was just humoring OP because I can imagine not everyone is used to doing this stuff, especially consolefags and the like.
