I honestly feel there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't have my ps2 hooked up and don't plan to, I buy discount ps2 games from (nothing more than 5 bucks), and it all works fine and I get to keep the game and run it whenever I want with the current version of an emulator I have.

What's the issue? Is there some sort of news?

You can't. PCSX2 was built to just quickly get everything in a vaguely playable state, which is why every other game has compatibility/accuracy issues. It's probably not something that can really be fixed without big work being done on the core parts of the emulator.

Kind of like N64 emulation, albeit on a decidedly lesser scale.

for anyone still wondering

it's not an accurate emulation of the hardware at a lower level, it instead relies on hacks and certain settings for most games in order to get them working

the main issue is that pcsx2 sees less development of the actual emulation and more creating hacks/settings to get games working

>>
>>386907384
>>386907693
Do you make the system requirements?

Minimum (most games will be unplayable slow)

Windows/Linux OS
CPU: Any that supports SSE2 (Pentium 4 and up, Athlon64 and up)
GPU: Any that supports Pixel Shader model 2.0, except Nvidia FX series (broken SM2.0, too slow anyway)
512MB RAM (note Vista needs at least 2GB to run reliably)

Recommended

Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit) with the latest DirectX
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.2 GHz or better OR i3/i5/i7 @ 2,8 GHz or better OR AMD Phenom II @ 3,2 GHz or better
GPU: 8800gt or better (for Direct3D10 support)
RAM: 1GB on Linux/Windows XP, 2GB or more on Vista / Windows 7

https://pcsx2.net/getting-started.html
>>
>>386924145
>pretty good thing this doesn't happen then huh.
That's just wrong, and if you think this then you haven't played PCSX2 enough.
Some games can't be fixed no matter how much you tweak. e.g. Ace Combat 4. Nothing will fix the glitched plane textures except running in software mode, which brings performance back down to PS2 levels while also requiring a stupid expensive CPU.
PCSX2 isn't even close to flawless. It's nice when it works, but too often it doesn't work.

Depends.

A lot of the JRPGs and eariler titles (2001-2003) work very well.
Some effects heavy games (like Okami in particular) loose effects on HW mode and have slowdowns on SW modes.
Other games that use hardware trickery (like Jak series, Primal, Rachet and Clank series) are even harder to emulate.
And later games (esp. the big ones like DMC3SE, God of War II, Ace Combat) have problems with even beefier PCs.

I really wish more people would get involved in PS2 emulation scene. I believe that it's still possible to bring it near Dolphin level.

i hope anyone complaining about ps2 emulation is at least using the nightly builds. pcsx2, like dolphin, has horrible build number practices where they go from 4.0 to 5.0, meanwhile the dev builds had 10k changes over a year in between. member when dolphin was spamming 5.0? it was no different than 4.0-9999 basically.

pcsx2 gets a lot of shit but they've been making some good progress, but dont fucking use the official dl

Stutter and audio issues STILL present, loads of crash reports to this day, less compatibility, less performance, less games to play, and no software mode? No thanks.

1. PCSX2's compat list is bullshit. Over half of it was updated by a non-english speaking 3rd worlder in under a year - yeah 1000 games tested to completion in a year by one guy..
2. Stuttering was fixed recently with ubershaders.
3. Audio has been perfect for years.
4. It has a software renderer. But it's hardware renderers are actually good, so there's no reason to use it.

"good enough" emulators really do seem to have this sort of detrimental effect on that platform's emulation. You get something like ZSNES, Project64, PCSX2, DeSmuME, ePSXe and when the majority of the people are content with it being "good enough" it can take a decade or more before someone actually decides to do something better. Meanwhile you have the PSP floundering with JPCSP for years and then out of the fucking blue we get PPSSPP, same shit when down with the Capcom CPS-3, for years it was unemulatable, progress was slow, then all of a sudden someone got fed up with it and we had a fully working emulator in like 6 months.

Parallelism isn't the issue here. The 360 has three cores and no developer complained about that platform. The problem is that the extra processors weird architecture. Nobody knew how to use the VDP2 in Saturn, few people could write optimal microcode for the VUs and fewer people could write optimal code for all the Cell SPUs. PS2 has the additional problem of having a really weird GPU with next to no VRAM and an unusually short pipeline but insane memory bandwidth.
The machines just aren't built like other platforms.

>Lesser known games
>Jax and Daxter has issues

SNES emulation is near perfect for the reasons that the console was hacked to shit during it's hayday still. It's not very complicated.
However EmotionEngine is whole nother bag of shit and PCSX2 is open source, therefore has no solid development team behind it and therefore is a buggy piece of shit that we're luck works to a degree of about 40% of games work perfect and about 20% more with adjustments with a remainder of 40% that completely shit out unless you have a monsterous cpu to completely fuck it to death in software mode.

Dolphin is closer to being perfect before PCSX2 and that's because it has a dedicated development team that isn't based around open source fuckery.

People hear open source, but the reality is much more grim of open source projects. They tend to take forever or go nowhere in general because they are passion projects. Rule of thumb this is why Linux will never be for consumer grade shit.

Part of the experience from Yakuza comes from playing 1 in all its shittiness, too. Going from 1 to 2 felt amazing, and I feel like some character moments are ruined in Kiwami (like Majima, he was played really well in 1 but the remake went a little overboard with the fanservice).

Also, nobody should be denied the right to play dubbed Yakuza. Hearing Mark Hamill harass you throughout the game is amazing.

>>
>>386918146
Worst part is that the delay varies from game to game. I could be playing Budokai 3 and it's be fine but if I switch to Yakuza 2 there's 500ms of latency.
>>
Is there any evidence towards the input lag on PCSX2? I've never noticed it.
>>
pcsx2 was designed from the start to be hacky and patchy with billions of disparate plugins that barely work. it is unsavable. im holding out a sliver of hope that the mednafen guy or rpcs3 or similar swoop out of nowhere with a brand new emulator but you'll be putting up with controller lag for the next century at least.
>>
>>386940080
Except if you actually look at their compatibility pages it's clear that they don't emulate fine and have several issues. Fucking retard.
>>
>>386907384
The project is open source. You can contribute a build if you believe you can save it.
We're pretty lucky it even runs considering it's open source that didn't end up complete abandonware.

Have you actually emulated them? Because I have, and they WERE fine. Maybe stop being such an asshole and get a better computer, or look at one of the many guides online that make the game run well.
>>
>>386941049
one of the problems is pcsx2 doesnt have true fullscreen causing you to use windows vsync which adds input lag
you can turn off the windows compositor on windows 7 but if your on 10 you are fucked
>>
>>386941160
Android is linux, handled by google an internal team.
Linux as an operating system on PC will never have a decent market share to speak of. But please shitpost harder with the literal meme some more.
>>
>>386941132
All of the issues listed on the wiki also have very simple fixes written next to them.
>>
>>386940969
there's your problem

>>
>>386941237
I see, but windowed vs full screen isn't an earth shattering gap in terms of lag. I mean if PC gaming has dealing it with it all this time PCSX2 users surely can manage too.
>>
>>386941104
The project is open source, you can contribute if you believe you can do better.

This is what people don't understand about PCSX2 it's entirely open source. It does not have an internal team managing it, like say Dolphin, Cemu, or Citra or even the PS3 emulator.
>>
>>386941324
They're not fixes, they're workarounds; meaning they're trade-offs. You trade one problem for another. Yakuza emulation is known to have problems and is frequently discussed. No point in pretending otherwise and giving PCSX2 devs a pass for their incompetence.
>>
>>386941237
Windows Vsync is fine for input lag. Its +1-5 frames, depending on how badly your app is setup.
That PCSX2 can't sync or input for shit, is the Apps own fault.

Pic related. I was always triggered by how fucked up the GTA3 fonts in PCSX2 were (look at the zeroes, they're glitched).

Was that shit ever fixed? Haven't tried PS2 GTA3 in ages.

>>
>>386941393
Have you actually emulated the games, though? They're completely perfect aside from one or two minor bugs, and that's only the first game. I've played 1 and 2 and only 1 had any problems, 2 was completely flawless.

I don't know why you're even bothering emulating PS2 games if you're not expecting a few hiccups along the way. If you can do better, then do it. We'd all appreciate a perfect PS2 emulator, and since you think the PCSX2 devs are incompetent that must mean you can do better, right?

Except your GPU can also play a factor in whether a game can have texture issues or not. I noticed that Ape Escape 2 in particular had a shit load of texture problems like everything looking transparent when I was attempting to run it on integrated graphics that actually went away when I played it on the 970

It's not my fault the two of you are so blinded by nostalgia you can't see just how overrated the whole thing was.
And yes, it's a "meme" game. Its whole shtick was that there were no loading screens. Well whoop-de-fucking-doo, something Soul Reaver had managed half a decade prior with actual interesting graphics, gameplay and writing in a console with half the power of the PS2.
Naughty Dog died after crash team racing, admit it. You literally cannot be this blind. I was 11 when I first played this garbage and I already knew it was derivative shit. But if you really like catching fish and floaty platforming with bad combat then be my guest.

No I was using Direct3D11 while trying to play games on the i5 4460's integrated graphics. At the time, I also had to force very low resolutions (I think it was 640 x 480?) too as games would lag heavily at a higher res, especially Kingdom Hearts and Yakuza
