FE7 is heralded as being well written on 4chan most of the time, and that game not only has tons of holes in it's writing, but actually screws up FE6's story due to things that made sense in FE6 not making sense anymore when we know FE6 characters had particular information due to FE7.

Most FEs don't have that good of a story, honestly; outside of some outliers like Genealogy and Path of Radiance, the story is typically is serviceable and inoffensive at best. I've always enjoyed the story in Sacred Stones.

I just started this and it's been the most obnoxious FE experience so far. The story scenes go on forever and are insultingly retarded, but I'm mostly salty I had to restart a nap because of 9 surprise units dumped into the middle of the map where are all my current engagements we're going on.

Is it worth it to even finish?

Echoes isn't one of the old FE games that people praise for narrative, and before Conquest, Gaiden had the worst story of any FE game. There's a reason people say that Gaiden is the worst game in the series.

It might have the worst recent storytelling. I'm sure there are other games with just as much of a mess of storytelling, but they are older games and the story being a clusterfuck is almost expected in a SNES-era platformer.

Probably the closest I can think of was Other M, which not only had a terrible story but also poor gameplay.

From what I understand, FFXIII had a poorly told story but it's presentation wasn't that bad. That is, none of the plot made sense, but at least it was pretty to look at. It looked like they had no clue what they fuck they were doing from plot point to plot point, but at least they tried to go with it each time. Fire Emblem Fates Conquest actively made me dislike the characters and dislike the game, because every time the plot came out, it either disappointed or outright pissed on what was going on.

I've not heard much complaints for FFXV outside the basic level shitposting, although I will admit that I just stopped visiting those threads by the time the game was out.

FFXV got less hate simply for being part of a better fanbase, which isn't saying much. XV has plenty of problems with the plot, but maybe in different ways. Instead of having a few characters make really stupid decisions, it has a massive chunk of the plot happen off-screen, and otherwise pointless characters who in some cases appear in one or two scenes and then totally disappear just because.

The claim they are attempting to refute is that the story doesn't matter at all. Whether that story is good or bad is irrelevant to their claim.
