If this isn't bait, focus on a signs build (igni + yrden) with passives that boost adrenaline regen and sign power. Throw a few points into light attack and you'll enjoy the lackluster combat a bit more. If the story disinterests you, power through white orchard and start up the Red Baron storyline. It'll eventually lead you into a horror swamp, and after that the story begins to shine.

Also if you're on PC, install a few mods that make the game more bearable (increased carry weight, no fall damage, customized loot)

I have a couple of friends who loved skyrim and the witcher 2 but got bored by witcher 3.
(personally I think 3 is better but open world is obviously more prone to be boring)
