I mostly use those for things that I either need to see the CDs for, or I can click with my mouse while I'm not in combat. They're just regular mouse and keyboard hotbars. All the pots on the left are for swapping out the pot that's set to R2+Dpad Up when I need to.

Another thing is that the bottom of the left/right bars are universal, while the top left/right bars are job-specific. So I don't have to set up the bottom ones every time.

Most of the CDs shown on those bars are bound to R2+L2 or R2+L2, and thus not immediately visible.

How's the story this time around? I really enjoyed the main storyline and then the additions brought by HW.

Good to hear! That was the main difference I found between this and WoW. I blew through the story in WoW, and focused on PvP and just shenanigans with friends. But FFXIV has me incredibly engaged by the plot development, and how polished it all looks.

Then you go to Doma and it gets really good as you feel like you're actually a resistance leader, gathering the dregs and arming them for war, with or without their consent, forcing them to face the reality of their situation.

Then it's back to Gyr Abania where it's a sudden steamroll to the capital and then you beat the game, and Lyse and a bunch of named characters sing the national anthem over the corpse of the final boss, and then the credits roll.

The job quests however are much more enjoyable, for the most part.

Probably just a way to write out one of the 1.0 Scions without outright killing them. As plot elements/devices, the 1.0 Scions all feel like they've overstayed their welcome. While Y'shtola and Thancred both have death flags, Papalymo and Yda/Lyse were both pretty safe other than being MIA for the majority of 3.0/3.X. Now they've essentially been written out of the plot entirely. Even Thancred and Y'shtola only show up when there needs to be a plot device or hook to push the plot forward.

I think Yoshida understands that the remnants of 1.0 need to eventually be removed from even the story if the game is to continue to grow. Coils wrapped up the story from 1.0, with 5.0 heavily being implied to be finishing up the war with Garlemald.

If the game isn't completely dead by the end of 5.0 (4 years from now) I seriously look forward to where they're going to go with the story.

The game was designed around the controller, rather than simply adding gamepad support with buttons equating to different hotkeys, with half your potential hotkeys being unusable because of lack of space.

Only downside of console support is probably loading times, in comparison to PCs. Also, if you're playing on a lower end TV, it'll show as I don't think AA is enabled in the console version.
