IMO Terreria is best played with one other person, that way it still feels personal and you can easily split off from your buddy, but you can still do cool co-op shit and build a big shared persistent base together.

Despite what people will say, Starbound is pretty fun with mods. The steam version has the steam workshop so you don't need to fix everything by hand. Get yourself Frackin' universe for more fun and get whatever else you want. Personally, I've had a lot of fun because of the several mechs mods

Also, forget about multiplayer. You'll be lagging out of your mind no matter what you do. If it wasn't so shit the /vg/ server wouldn't have died under a month

I usually just get fed up with most of my npcs getting killed by an event or boss and randomly moving into the semi-personalized rooms I've made.
I've gotten to the point where I take that one mod that lets you copy and paste terrain and just make quick commie blocks for all. Especially when I have several different mods with new npcs and need like 15 more "houses".

Thorium is widely considered to be one of the best mods around because of the new bosses and NPCs, loads of new items, 2 new classes (Healer and Bard), a new biome, and several additions to events like Blood Moon.
I haven't gotten too far into Fargo's, but apparently it's main attraction is the Mutant NPC that sells boss summoning items, as well as the souls/essence/enchantments that boost classes at different points in progression. Souls are endgame, essences are early-hardmode, and enchantments are varied.
I haven't touched Spirit at all yet, but it's apparently alot like Thorium with new ores, items, bosses/NPCs, enemies, and a new biome.

I will admit that after going to fucking hell that areas do get kind of underwhelming afterwards. Even still most of them get upgraded in hardmode so I still say there's more discovery to be had.

It's just a small return to how you had to grind for loot pre-hardmode with the 3 new ores. After that you can freely explore to see new additions to places you've been.

That's your choice to do that, there are other things to do. Also it might be just me, but doing all that railroading is very satisfying after you're done.

You know writing this I realize that it might be a little annoying to people doing a fresh reset like Hardmode does. You're basically going back to square one with ores to mine, enemies that can kill you regularly, and more bosses to go through. I can understand how that can be annoying to people to have to start over after already grinding so much before Wall of Flesh, but I still don't understand how you act like there's nothing to do.
