These are the only good games I've found on the play store, all PC ports. Not that I mind, but each of them is much better on PC. Still good enough that if I was stranded on an island I might play them, in practice I haven't touched them (on mobile) after the first hour or two.

I admit Clash Royale has the foundations of a great game, but after grinding my way to legendary arena once I got tired of always playing the same deck and wanted to try something new. Guess what? You can't do that, because the amount of gold you earn playing is only (barely) enough to upgrade one deck so all my other cards are very low level.

It's not even about losing rank (not that I enjoy that either) but losing 95% of the games purely because of level difference is frustrating and NOT FUN. I was already battling level 11-12's with my level 8-9 and that was a challenge, but dropping my cards to level 3's it an automatic loss no matter how bad the opponent is.

yeah ladder is shit now that the game is old, even shitty players are high level and get carried by their king and card levels.
Once you get tournament standard it's fun, and friendly battles are always tournament standard now.
It's fun finding cool decks and combos to use against friends, it's not fun in ladder/challenges when everybody is using meta copypaste #35325 then spams laughing emotes when they win.

Quest. It's kind of like Might and Magic VI without a party. Also Dragon Quest VIII. Pretty decent port.

I enjoyed ladder and I didn't even mind the handicap that much, it's a great feeling beating someone with a king level 3 above yours (I was level 8 when I made it to legendary). Didn't even copy a deck off the internet, just built my own early on (maybe arena 5) and stuck with it.

I agree tournament rules is fun. I was around 3800 at my highest but already at 3000 I could beat my clan's 4500 nerds with friendly rules 4 times out of 5. Only one IRL friend I always lost to, and he was ~3500 too, thousand crowns behind the "top" players who could never beat him with friendly rules.

Being somewhat of a rock-paper-scissors game I didn't find the tournament format itself that interesting. Individual games have too much luck involved. Ladder evens it out and forces you to have a deck that works in as many situations as possible. The core gameplay is solid and the deck building has great potential.. in theory. It's a shame they fucked it up completely with the p2w scam killing all experimentation. Now I regret ever wasting time on it (uninstalled the game 6 months ago).

I've yet to see a mobile game that doesn't play like a vastly inferior watered down console game.

This reminded me of the #1 reason I don't download games from the play store. Their jew trickery to not allow me to look at negative reviews. Click the 1 star icon, nothing happens. Sort by rating can only be done so that it displays the highest.

Positive reviews offer nothing. I can already see the average score is high and that's enough. I want to look at the criticisms. That's what I always do in Steam or other platforms. Only disappointed customers bring up legitimate criticism. I look at what people who hated the game thought then buy the game.
