Gameplay is fun, but it gets boring with the amount of content it comes with. I hope it gets a sequel with it's problems fixed. You can tell the developers care because they've been balancing the game pretty frequently, and dataminers have found a second new fighter is almost definitely in the works.

I'd say from my experience, that it can be a fun experience. Single player is pretty repetitive and stale after the first time. online ranked can be annoying, and isn't deep enough to really make you think. The most fun I had was playing in person multiplayer where you and your friend are both up using motion controls, that really is a blast.

The gameplay is extremely sound and like any fighting game when you put time into getting better you'll play. Braxien is one of the best characters, to be sure, but she's not busted any moe then the best characters of other fighting games are, in fact more characters are viable at a top level in pokken then most games. Anyways, she can't do support cancels as easily in 1.5/DX, and yvetal can only be used once per round, so that knocks her down quite a few pegs.

Weavile icicle crash keepaway is the new meta, since he can now signal slash twice on top of an icicle crash, or signal slash once before firing it off, and popplio is a new support that allows double jumps.

Considering I fought in a competetive tournament, I can only say that this game only rewards fundamentals and addaptation. Its a casual under normal circumstances, but if you cant read your opponent you'll never land a hit.

The problem with this game is that it enables massive camping in the arena and thereby making fights more defensive and slower. You have people jumping around and stalling all the time till they hit you a bit and you suddenly lose. Same applies to them. Fights are hardly personal and hardly aggressive and fast paced enough.

For a fighting game to be engaging, you need fights to be up close and personal. When one side plays defensively, this is not an issue because it allows them potential to rebound. When both sides play defensively, it gets boring quick because there's not enough action happening. And that's what ARMS is, its flawed by design because most fights in this game will always be defensive. Contrast that with the Punch Out games which fights are personal, and ARMS just doesn't compete.

during an interview, the team kinda answered to your question. they basically said that during the development "gameplay came first" (completely reasonable since it's a new fighting game) so all the stuff you're seeing on social media is an after product (i'm not counting the ending screens because like you said, they're pretty low quality)
they said that they're planning to add stuff like art/lore in game down the line tho

I spent the weekend with my family and brought my switch. We spent more time playing ARMS than Mario Kart. Currently our favorite game and my 7-year-old niece is all about Ribbon Girl.

The core game is really strong but it NEEDS that support down the line, which thankfully it's getting. Kinda sucks that people seem to have forgotten about it now that Spla2n is out

Those are key words there. Aggresive doesn't just mean random moving, it means keeping pressure while leaving as few openings as possible while you're attacking. Jumping in this game can leave you super open if you're not careful and constantly jumping is a death sentence. Top level play us very in your face pressuring.

Being as unbiased as i can, the fame is doing good but could be doing better.

It does still have an active player base finding games doesn't take much time at all although it is region based matchmaking so if you play mostly ranked you may notice as you get higher you face the same people often.

The ARMS community is small but fmgrowing and super dedicated. You'll find most players in the discord communities but they're always willing to play and help those trying to get better.

The game is a LOT more fun when you have people to play against consistently so I'd recommend if you decide to get the game to join one of them. I can link you the 2 biggest discords if you'd like

Different guy. There is an active playerbase, but it isn't massive by any means. I think it has the potential to surpass other poverty games though. It seems to be getting live tournament play at both FGC and Smash events. 2GG also has an online tournament circuit, in which I believe the winner is getting flown out to EVO Japan. If we are looking at projected growth, I think the tournament exposure could get it to be at least as popular as Killer Instinct, Skullgirls, and Pokken. Which isn't terrible. All of the bigger games have a cross between existing for years and having big money behind them. The only truly big grassroots esport is Smash and I highly doubt anything will surpass it.

The biggest hurdle on the game right now outside of splatoon is how tournaments should be held and whether its better to have default loadouts of ARMS or allow every character to use any ARM in a tournament setting. Its early in the games life so its still being discussed and nintendo hasn't made a convenient way to access all ARMS for tournaments so most tourneys you see will be running defaults. But its a bit of a touchy subject fr some so be careful of sparking up the flames.
