Honestly you're a pleb if you undervalue any of those features. For example games like Nier suck fucking ass when it comes to gameplay but the plot is such a 10/10 experience that you deal with it. If graphics were not important then we would never have had TECHNOLOGY like realistic lighting, the rain in MGS2, shit like that, and likeable characters can go a long way to cover up issues in a game or increase enjoyment because you genuinely like the characters (Solid Snake, Dante, Kain to name a few)

High quality vidya is made of many pieces to make a whole fucking good one. To single out any of them in some trash attempt at elitism is what has ruined vidya, and OP you're the very faggot that you claim to hate.

Companies' sequels generally don't "improve" mechanics, they either remove or dumb-down. There are surely examples you could find, but they're the exception, not the rule. Games are a lot less complex and dynamic than they used to be.

graphics and art design go hand and hand and story has a place depending on the game. Not every game has a focus on replayability and not every game needs a well-done story but if they're core part of how the game is designed of the game should be judged by them along everything else. When gameplay elements resonate with the story it's pretty fuckin cool and unique to the medium

Nobody said gameplay was bad or not important, just that it ages and new games improve on old ones, so old games that rely entirely on their gameplay and don't offer anything more are usually outdated shit
