This game went from my 2017 top five to leaving my consciousness the moment it was confirmed there's no online co-op.

Volition could have prevented this. In the Good ending for Saints 4 the Saints find out they can go back in time using the Zin technology.

If they prevent the world being destroyed in 4 is unknown, but the credits clearly show they go back and fuck with time for shits and giggles.

Point is the Saints got to go back before everything was fucked. If Volition pulls 'They went back in time and made everything go their way so there was never any conflict or enemies' then that is total horseshit.

Not even close. Crackdown, Infamous (1, 2, even Second Son), Hulk: Ultimate Destruction are all leagues better than SR4. I could probably list another half dozen if I really thought about it. One of the big things is how deeply unappealing the S4 gameworld, enemies and scenario are. It's a mess tonally, and does not make you feel powerful despite essentially making you god.

For the record, I have a platinum in SR3, SR4, and Gat out of Hell, and played the entire campaign for SR2 with a friend, in the same room, on two TVs with a lot of marijuana.
