Kid, Bethesda has been talking about mods ever since they packaged the CS with Morrowind and it was successful. They have flat out said on numerous occasions that they owe their enormous growth since Morrowind to the support for modding they adopted then.

goty is an utterly meaningless term and has been for 20 years. every game going to back late 90s had a "goty edition" which meant nothing more than having all the expansions and updates with it same as it does today.

Nah, most games didn't get expansions and a GOTY edition didn't guarantee their presence anyway. A GOTY edition usually just meant it had all the latest patches, assuming there had been any patches, and different box art. It was mostly a marketing thing for the high selling games that were being considered to be turned into franchises or just trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of it, no different from Sony's "PLATINUM" line for example.

Arguably it IS meaningful today because almost all of the time it does have more content than the original release did.

That's not how that shit works.

The reality is Zenimax organizes and announces a launch party and both invites all the people associated with the game, of which there were already many celebrities, and alerts all the press agents and shit. Those press agents alert the celebrities they represent and say "Want to go to a free party? Lots of people going to be taking photographs." and depending on how vapid a whore and eager for publicity that celebrity may be they may or may not decide to go. The only payment they may receive is that some fashion company or some shit may pay them to wear a certain outfit while attending or something like that.
