Whatever helps you enjoy your pool of nostalgia, the game has flaws and one of the big ones is that Vivec is a maze, look anywhere online, its been a complaint since the game came out.

Ive done this quest before but this time around I seem completely incapable of finding this location even with guides, my first time I found it with no problem.

When I was a kid this games combat was so difficult for me and now that I've gone back to it, the RTD system really isnt bad if you understand basic character building, I think Dark Souls has done good things to help me actually enjoy Morrowind.

that's funny, i also just started morrowind again recently after dropping it a few times. i'm doing the first real mage guild quest even though i'm only really speccing into alchemy, and i got stuck near morag mar or whatever and ran out of healing potions. i only have fargoth's ring to heal me, and my spear is on such low durability that i'm not able to kill them anymore. i'm gonna find a way out of this mess, man i really enjoy this game

also i meant to say, the mage guild quest gave me two locations i had to get to, but the directions she gave had me leave the city from the south, and the east, going to the same fort, and eventually lake. but the directions were almost radically different despite pretty much taking the same road after the fort. that bothered the shit out of me.

why not just give me directions to my two different quest objectives branching from the lake?

Go to Vivec City, use Almsivis Intervention spell/amulet or just go to the huge temple, from the temple you can go over to two other Cantons, St. Delyn on the left and St. Olms on the right, there are these triangular shields telling you which is which, but if you face these two from the temple, St. Olms is the right one, then you go to the right one and walk into one of the doors on the bottom facing the the temple, you literally just go from the temple over the right bridge, turn right and walk into the second or so door, then you kill the cat that's in there, for your fighters guild contract

Notice that it says CANAL, not CANALWORKS. It's on the exterior wall of the lower portion.

maybe, i just hit the 1st rank in mage guild. the first new duty i requested she told me to do two different things. extort gold from someone needing to pay dues, and recruit a mage that was researching something. (done)

it's nothing really, just kind of inconsistent i had to pass the moonfort and get to the lake in both quests, but was told to leave town by different gates for each one, and having pretty different directions on the same road.

i guess it sorta helped me find my way though
