Serious question about Bloodborne timeline. When did Master Wilem lead the expedition to the Chalice dungeons? 100 years ago? 500 years ago? 10 years ago? The timeline seemed fucked.

1. Master Wilem is still alive, which means they built the whole institution, most of Yharnam cathedrals, had Vileblood vs. Executioner war etc in less than 100 years. This is in line with Alfred being alive and knowing "Master" Logarious personally.

2. However Logarius is frozen solid and a decayed mummy on Cainhurst, which puts the timeline beyond >100 years ago.

Ludwig apparently gone mad and slaughter the church members, but why people still regard him as a hero?

The DLC just shows that most if not all of the church heroes where bigger monsters than the ones they fought.

Willem seems to have ascended (or at least began the metamorphosis process into a superior being), so using his age as a marker is pretty pointless.

I think somewhere between 100-200 years is accurate though, it's a pretty long time (think about how much shit had happened in real life since 1917 or 1817), long enough for The Healing Church to establish itself as the governing body of Yharnam, long enough for the whole Hunter history to go down and mostly be forgotten. All the og people are long dead (except Willem), but it certainly doesn't feel like ancient history.

As for Logarious it's really hard to say if Alfred actually knew him personally or just knew the stories. But I wouldn't use Logarious' state as proof the timeline is extremely long. If you leave someone outside in a blizzard they'll turn into a skeleton mummy pretty quick.

The only event we know happened in living memory was Burning of Old Yharnam since Djura was there and is still alive, so it happened 30-40 years ago max.

The real question is whether all the people in Yharhagul were petrified ages ago, or it happened when we killed Rom and they just didn't show it. That area is blocked off pre-Blood Moon, so there's no way of knowing if it happened ages ago (presumably previous blood moon when Old Yharnam burned) or we are meant to assume 1000's of people we never saw got mummified while we weren't looking. Which also brings into question whether Micolash had been in the nightmare for decades going mad or if he was just 20 minutes ahead of the player.

Ludwig was a wholesome hero, he just wasn't very smart and completely drank the church's kool aid (both metaphorically and litterally). Plus he allowed the sword to guide him through battle, he had no fear or pause to contemplate what he was doing, just pure faith that he was doing the right thing because he unconditionally trusted the things giving him orders.

I don't think he had ascended yet. Rom was ascended to kin by Kos and its purpose was to suppress the "eldritch truth" and stop humans from gaining the insight/power to ascend. That's why Willem points you towards where Rom is hiding. Willem's entire life was in pursuit of what Rom was suppressing so he wants you to get rid of it.

Both. It had happened ages ago, but Rom was hiding it. The school of mensis activated the ritual, Kos created Rom to stop it. Then the hunters killed Kos and Kos cursed their afterlife to the hunter's nightmare.

1. A church with literal god blood that heals you can probably gain popularity very quickly and will get mass amounts of people to do/build what ever you want.

2. The war could have easily have been as long as a few decades ago or a few years. Sitting on a roof outside surrounded by bloodsuckers and using some sort of magic to curse yourself to stay there probably mummifies you extremely quickly.

You also have to think about how drinking/injecting god blood might slow down someones aging process.
