I actually get higher score in AA since I use a team with 0 synergy, but the highest potential score. Lose units a bunch of times until I win without losing a unit, then continue on. I'm at 4858 in AA and usually end up at only like 4820 in normal Arena.

You can't build a defensive team that requires the AI to utilize strategy. It just doesn't work. Any team that will fall apart when not used right is not a good defensive team. Nino is a player phase unit.
