Well, I think it's immersive but the puzzles are sometimes just confusing and long rather than challenging (imo).

I think the closest game to this would be the tomb raider reboot. at least it was clear where I had to go, and how I had to get there though.

Basic premise of the game is that, while she was in self-imposed exile to try and control her psychosis, her town was attacked and her lover was given a spread-eagle execution by vikings as a sacrifice to Hela. This causes her to basically go into a wandering mental state where she believes she's gone to Hela's gates themself to try and get back her lovers soul. Game mechanics are tied around certain attributes of psychosis (Hearing voices in your head, things not being where they seem to be, hysteria and hopelessness).

In the end, she comes to her senses and finds that she's just holding onto her lovers head with no way to actually 'save' him, so she lets him go, sacrificing the only person that actually tried to help her, but in turn finally gets a grip.

Game's just a big bit about combating and dealing with mental illness. Personally quite liked it, but it doesn't seem to have much in the ways of replay value. Story game, really.

I think it's meant to look jarring in a way, it's a vision, and FMV cuts deep into uncanny valley when the rest of the game isn't FMV. Not to mention that it's an effective way to cut budget, and I'm always down for ways to make games cheaper without losing out on the original vision.
