Well for starters it's written by the same guy as Fall of Reach, Eric Nylund, which is great. Second, it's miles better than the book adaptation of the game.

Halo the Flood kinda sucked because a) turning a game story into a book and b) written by a completely different person.

So coming right off that book to First Strike makes it seem like a masterpiece. It's not, but it's very, very good. Sufferers a bit from middle child syndrome; you can see the parts where he's throwing stuff in to make the transition from Halo 1 to 2 make sense, but it's just as excellently written as Fall of Reach.

They hired like retarted writers who just felt like making Mickey a double agent because Adam was involved in GG.

Rookie dying was super shitty and i was kinda hoping they wouldnt treat the extended universe as true.

343i doesnt understand the concept of an extended universe, it needs to have connections but not be the driving force of the main arc. if one piece of the extended universe is super important to the plot than it needs to be in the main arc at some point and fleshed out.

Instead we keep getting this hamfisted thrown together side story thats spinning its wheels and trying to mark check boxes on a piece of paper that Microsoft handed them.

Im hoping they turn it all around for Halo 6 but after Halo Wars 2 they still dont understand the idea of a self contained story.

They shat out an expansion and a destiny tech demo with minimal effort and experimental gameplay changes (reach campaign and multiplayer maps were the same, visual aesthetic is closer to destiny than Halo). Fanboys, CoD faggots and dumb kids stuck with it and the Halo 3 era infrastructure kept it afloat even though it did start to die off towards the middle.

343 come in and assumed that it died off because of the lack of support when bungie left and the campaign that didn't focus on chief.

They overcompensate for fear of disappointing the fans and go full lore-fag, but end up alienating 90% of Halo fans who couldn't give two fucks about the out of game lore. They build on reach's flawed infrastructure and add in elements from other successful games at the time, assuming that there was a lot of crossplay between CoD fans and Halo fans. They were wrong.

Halo 4 was received poorly by the community for many elements, but the most universally hated was the ordinance drops and loadouts, the easy to make argument was to appeal to "fairness" and call Halo an "arena shooter"

Someone give me a quick run down on 5's story.

By now kids who grew up on reach and 4's core fanbase don't want to give up sprint or extra powers, and the old fans are out the door. They decide to appeal to both to save the community!

They promised the world and couldn't deliver, the technical side was an impossibility and they unfaithfully ported the games, super buggy nightmare. The general concept further defined the split in the community as everyone who wanted to play one game on MCC were SoL or stuck in one shitty playlist. Old fans pretty much left after that one.

Meanwhile Halo 5 iterates on the new crowd, everyone has Titanfall/advance warfare superpowers now so it's "fair", they call it arena and market HARDCORE to Esports faggots. Still failed because the campaign team wrote themselves into a corner and had to market around it to seem interesting, and the multiplayer is no so far removed from Halo it is it's own thing, and the numbers are waning.

Halo 6 is going to be an iteration of 5, probably with better maps and complete support at launch. The campaign WILL be better, so sales will be higher, but the MP will wane again.

The community is changing, oldschool Halo is getting a huge resurgence in the forums and youtubers.

It might just return in some form, but it'll be at least 3 years from now.

Reach was the last Halo game I played, and I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit, even if it wasn't a traditional sort of Halo game. The war-story feel was pretty interesting, and the art style was cool in its own way. Honestly, I've mostly been playing Halo Wars 1+2 and XCOM2 with the Halo mods. Makes me really wish there was some sort of ODST 2 game that was a squad-based strategy sort of game.

Sort of. There's a mechanic where you can pick one of five upgrades to slot into a unit, for speed, accuracy, health, etc. Nothing like the previous game, though. There are a couple of good mods that give you a fully customizable loot system for weapons and armor, so that's kind of neat. Loading up a guy as a grenadier and then customizing his grenades and the like is fairly fun, or playing a specialist with a Monitor for a drone companion.

Humanity post halo 3(excluding halo 5) actually has a lot of worlds and power left. They're also a lot more united than you think with the UNSC handing back government to the UEG which makes the civilians happy. given the fact that the UNSC navy is also rebuilding to the point when they have a flagship w/ shields + an assortment of escort frigates w/ shields that BTFOs another other than a forerunner ship.
All humanity has to do is wait out for the covenant remnants to destroy their dwindling equipment since they lost all manufacturing capabilities with the schism. The only real issue for humanity is the Sanghelli if they get their shit together.
Remember it took the UNSC less than 10 years to make the infinity, in the time between fall of reach and first battle of earth they put atleast 300 S-MACs in earth orbit. The industrial powerbase of the UNSC should not be downplayed senpai.

Bungie and now 343 kept fucking it up. Arbiter would have been interesting if he started out fighting Humans in the game and then moved on to fighting on the side of Humans at the end of the game. Reach should have either been about Blue Team or should have focused on Reach's invasion with massive battles, Scarab fights, and a level inside the Super Carrier. Halo 5 should have just been a Chief game. Osiris really didn't make sense and Blue Team felt forced in. Chief always has to save the series because the Bungie and 343 always give false promises when making side characters.

I'm cautiously optimistic but I'm very interested to see how Halo 6 will be. 343's got my interested with the game being Master Chief focused along with future Halo games being this and finally dropping the new characters angle. Bringing back split screen and lan, bringing back black undersuits, going with a simple story meaning no spin off games or novels and comics playing a part in Halo 6, all multiplayer features, Forge ,and File Browser at launch, and possibility of AIs being in Forge mode. Lastly, with Tom French being the new Multiplayer lead, the mp may not be so competitive focused. 343 has a chance to make a great Halo game with Halo 6.

I liked the standard social matchmaking version of Halo 4 in MCC, it was basically Halo 3 but in Halo 4, although it did have the thing still where it marked out the stronger weapon spawns like snipers and rockets etc. None of that ordnance drop crap

Would anyone be fine if Spartan Time (makes enemies move in slow motion while Master Chief moves at normal speed) becoming a Spartan Ability in Halo 6?

Thats a really odd way of saying it but I feel like the perception of time that enemies have would vary, like elites would be able to respond faster than say grunts or jackals etc
